Mountain Goating
Easily one of the highlights from our second day of riding was mountain goating up to the lookout on Quartz Mountain (6,242 feet). Interestingly enough, we didn’t know we were even close to the lookout until we were at the lookout. We were riding in a cloud, it was snowing lightly and the trees were so dense and laden with snow there was no way we would have found our way to the lookout that day without SSSSS.
Because of the aforementioned factors, we didn’t get any amazing views from Quartz Mountain. But, in a way, it was still eerily awesome with the great snow conditions and snow-caked pines surrounding the lookout.
The rest of the day’s ride was literally up and down and very steep in some places. The new snow that fell overnight and while we were riding added to the experience and toward the end of our ride the clouds lifted a bit so we could better see the surrounding area.
We barely touched all there is to ride near Libby, as is the case usually when we head out to ride a new area. But it was fun to explore as much as were able to. And we were able to take advantage of the Lincoln County Sno-Kats warming hut on day one by having a lunch break at the warming hut.
Yes, Libby is tucked way up in the northwest corner on Montana. To some, that’s a deterrent. To others, like us, that is the big draw. No crowds. Plenty of riding both on and off trail. Amazing scenery. Great accommodations and food options in Libby.
It’s the total package. Indeed, Libby delivers the goods.
