Yamaha Reactive Suspension System

He explained, “The YRSS system hydraulically links the ski shocks together compensating the gas pressure to control the machine’s body roll. The shocks share a remote reservoir with fluid lines connecting them to this reservoir. Oil flows between the shocks through a proprietary YRSS control module that applies damping force when required, based on the speed of movement along with direction and the amount of energy being introduced at each ski.”

He continued, “Yamaha redesigned the original YRSS control module concept for the snowmobile-specific YRSS with independent base valves for each shock held captive in a single gas-charged, high pressure reservoir. A unique ‘mountain’ bypass circuit was developed to give riders the option between compensating damping for more level cornering stability or free-flowing fluid between each shock for a more independent shock function to aid in off-trail and soft snow maneuverability.”

This would be similar to having the front stabilizer bar un-coupled with independent shocks.

YRSS helps control lateral roll without any compromise to bump compliance and comfort. The end result is an overall improvement in ride quality with increased stability over conventional shocks which will compromise the ride comfort when adjusted for roll stability.
