If you
missed the first ever NOS Energy Drink Beatercross race at ERX this past July,
you most likely know by now that you missed one heckuva good time. Whether it
was the hundreds of friends who shared a cold one on a perfect summer evening;
the ridiculous jumps these would be salvage-yard cars and trucks were
attempting; or simply the head to head, competitive racing, everyone left with
big grins and a similar message, "I'll be back!"
The NOS
Energy Drink Beatercross Series returns for Round 2 presented by Ziegler Cat,
Thursday, Aug. 12 at ERX. Nearly 40 cars are expected to participate in what
can be best described as closed course rally car racing on a motocross track.
With classes featuring compact cars and pickups in 4-cyclinder and 6-cylinder
configurations, you'll gain a new level of appreciation for those rusted,
front-wheel drive daily drivers when the green flag drops.
"Everyone
had a great time," said Chris Carlson, co-owner of the ERX facility. "Racers
were telling me afterwards that it was the most fun they had in a long time and
that they couldn't wait for the next race. I think we can expect to see twice
the cars for this next event."
Similar to
other forms of grassroots automobile racing, Beatercross features two heat
races followed by cars being placed into an A main or B main final based upon
their previous finishing order. A few new twists have also been added from the
inaugural race, so racers will want to get registered and checked-in early.
Joining the action on the track will be great food and drink courtesy of the
Friendly Buffalo and NOS Energy Drink will be handing out free samples and
giving prizes. During intermission Parts Unlimited will hold its helmet toss
for the kids and an exhibition race featuring sport UTVs. Of course there will
also be cool tunes and the family friendly atmosphere unique to ERX.
The racing
action gets underway at 5:30 p.m., but racers can check-in anytime between noon
and 4 p.m. A mandatory drivers meeting will take place at 4:45 p.m. with
practice laps afterwards. All cars must pass a pre-race inspection checklist before they
are allowed on the track. Race registration is just $30 when you pre-register
or $40 at the gate. Spectators can take in all the action for just $10 for
adults with children 12 and under admitted for free. Don't miss round two of
the NOS Energy Drink Beatercross race presented
by Ziegler Cat at ERX this Thursday night.
