Mountain Freerides Put The Hurt On Mountains
What started out as a curiosity when the Polaris Assault was unleashed on the mountains just three model seasons ago has evolved into a full-blown mountain class that has quickly become one of the most popular, right behind the 800cc sleds.

Riding Mountain Horse
We’ve lost count of the times a product has been brought to our attention with the hype that it’s going to revolutionize snowmobiling. That list includes everything from seats to goggles, ski carbides to gas racks. About 99 percent of what comes through these channels gets the boot. Some are decent concepts that have made their place in the industry (without the revolution, however).

Experiencing But Not Seeing Grangeville
Sometimes the irony of a situation doesn’t show itself until sometime later, well after the fact. In the case of our two-day ride in Grangeville, ID, there was irony at the time of our ride as well as now, seven months later.

2012 Mountain 4-Strokes
The options for the 4-stroke aficionado on the hunt for a brand new ride in the mountain snowmobile segment expanded two-fold when Arctic Cat jumped squarely into the 4-stroke game. Not only does that create a new mountain segment of sorts, Cat’s entry in the 4-stroke mountain market now gives Yamaha some heated competition.

Clearing The Air: Misconceptions About Sound
Most people who have been around the snowmobile industry very long know that Starting Line Products is all about building quiet performance exhaust systems. It started 13 years ago when the company made a major push to develop a brand focused on lightweight exhaust systems that were quieter than what consumers had seen in the past.

Routt County: Powder Heaven
Some years it’s risky to plan a ride late in the season—risky in that you’re never quite sure what the snow conditions will be like. Will the snow be spring-like conditions where you can ride just about anywhere on “hero” snow or will it be starting to get “rotten” and fall out from under your sled as you ride?

Yamaha, Camoplast team up to develop the new Ascent track
The track is one of the most critical parts of a snowmobile. Think about it. Without a track you’re not going anywhere. Choosing the right track to match your sled and the type of riding you do is critical and in the mountains it can make a huge difference in how your sled performs.

We Ride The 2012 Ski-Doo Summit 600
Is the 2012 Ski-Doo Summit 600 better than the 2011? Yes, although you have to look at it in a glass-half-full kind of way. There were two Summit 600s last year and only one this year. So the 2012 Summit SP 600 is better than the 2011 Summit Everest 600. But the 2011 Summit X 600 had a better shock package that you can’t get for 2012.

Gloves 101
Well, it’s about that time. We’re about to start blaming pets, kids, spouses (who am I kidding?) and just about anyone else for the disappearance of our favorite pair of gloves. I often get asked how to help prolong the life of snowmobile gloves. So I’ve put together some helpful dos and don’ts concerning protective gloves—those we use to keep us dry, warm and protect us from abrasion.
