Im looking for a machine and am interested in the older polaris but I have heard there have been some problems with these machines. Any advice or experiences with these machines would be great.

I would stick with the edge chassis 2002 or newer. As far as motor the 600 is almost bulletproof. Next the 700 for dependability. Last the 800, lots of crank problems. I just picked up a 03 700 with a 144, slp pipe with 1300 miles for $1800. It has minor hood damage but for the most part good shape.

I would not go older than an 02. I still have my 02 800 RMK with a 151 track. Had 4400 miles on it and it still ran good, went ahead and tore it down last year and did the big bearing kit on it. Has a couple hundred miles on it now...my son rides it....and it runs as good as ever.

Ditto

Some say the 2003 800 is a really good sled.

I have run an 02 EDGE 800 RMK 151 the last 2 seasons (2100 miles) and haven't had any problems, I wouldn't hesitate to do it again with the experience I had with mine, it has been a great sled... 3,000 miles on it total now, strong runner:D

Had an 03 700 mod. Rebuilt the engine and worked it over at 3300 miles, could have got away with just rings and bearings. Awesome sled. Sold it when I got my 09 800. Miss it, wanted to keep it for the wife, but it was too much for her.:D

The 600 and 700 are great durable engines. The 800s can be reliable with some crank work. While the '03 escape introduced electronic reverse and a lightweight chaincase/brake, these came standard on the '04s. The '05 edge RMK were just like the '04s as long as it isn't the 900.

Hope that helps.

I would not be scared of an 800, I have had a few of them and have not broken a crank. I have lost a rod bearing but was self inflicted. I would recommend an edge chassis unless you can get one of the older ones that have good suspensions put in them. I have a 04 700 rmk which I like for my wife but I also have a 01 800 mod that has holz suspension under it and it is alot more fun to ride. I need to sell one so if you are in WA pm me

Depends what you want. The 700 is strong and very reliable. Not as much HP but lots of add-ons (single and twin pipes, cheaters, heads, etc.). If you want to get as much HP as possible, you will want to get an 800 with crank work already done or plan on doing it yourself. Indy Dan does some very reputable stuff on those motors.
