I bought one of those brand new way back when. Put thousands of miles on it in the mtns I guess you'd call them, but honestly it's not a mtn sled. I'd put a couple hundred studs in the track, some 9" carbides on the front and bag it. If you want a mtn sled there are a bunch of models out there that are old enough to be fairly inexpensive and will run circles around that old rxl. If you like polaris pick up a rmk 700, any year, and start with that. I'm not trying to discourage you but I think it would be a waste of money to modify that old girl to be competitive in the hills, I've got an old 650 sitting in the barn that I have over 10 grand into, spent over time, and '98 700 rmk with pipes will kick it's azz all over the hills. It's all about the track these days, and without a drop and roll you won't fit anything bigger than a 1 3/4" under that chassie. Anyway good luck and have fun with it.
