Does anyone know how many thousandths you can take off a stock 800 head?

Looking to up the compression on my 03 800 motor on asphalt, to raise compression without the expense of a new head all together. I have race gas readily available. I have ridden with sleds that had anywhere from .010 to .030. Can you go more? Thanks for any help

CHECK IT FIRST.

stick some "L" shaped bent soft solder in through the spark plug hole (in line with the wrist pin), pull the engine over slowly

.045" is a safe MINIMUM I.M.O.

For reference my 2007 DRAGON is at .064"- .069", was looking to shave .020" this fall.

I've run SLP/HOT SEAT heads on my 2002 EDGE-X 800, 2001 EDGE-X 600, 1999 XCR 800, 1998 XC 700

I Shaved .020" and single layer head gasket (split the stock head gasket) on my 1996 STORM 800, 1993 STORM 750.

On an interesting note, I 've always been a proponent of slightly higher compression, so I was VERY surprised to see the 2009 800 DRAGON dyno results from Jim @ DYNOTECH (www.dynotechresearch.com $ 25.00 annual subscription fee) a couple of months ago on the "seanray" TOP HAT configuration head dome mod ($100.00 on your stock head) with LESS COMPRESSION and a tighter squish that ACTUALLY MADE MORE POWER even in the mid-range along with providing extra insurance against detonation.
