Just talked my brother-in-law into buying his first sled. He bought a used 2008 Dragon 700 and it won't pull over 7500 rpms on the flats and won't climb anything steep at all. I need some clutching advice. It looks to be all stock. What is everybody running at around 7-10,000 feet. Your help, as always, is greatly appreciated! (I couldn't find anything with the search tool)

running the stock springs at that elevation he should have 10-58 or even 10-56 in it.
What weights are in the primary? How many miles on the sled etc? Where did he buy it from? It may be setup of like 2 to 4 k feet.

Looks like 10-60s and it is from Jackson Hole. It looks like it might have been a rental. We'll get the go-fast goodies on it soon, but just want to be able to go over the top of a couple short climbs! Yesterday was rough.

Sounds about how a rental would be setup, I have been running the 58s all the way from 6 up to 10. The are great up to about 8, turning about 81250 to 8200,then the r's fall off a bit. At 10k a couple a weeks ago i was only able to pull 7900rpm. Think for over 8k the 56's will be the ticket, Just running out of $ right now to ride.

Just put in the 58s and noticed the spring was broken. That is the second one I've seen out of the 4 clutches I've messed with. Sounds like a regular problem. That would explain the lack of R's I'm sure. Thanks for the info guys.

Didn't realize how important keeping a new spring in was till this season, was having R, problems, changed weights, fooled around with deflection. Finally a good buddy smacked me up side the head and made me buy new springs. Huge difference. Apparently 1600 miles is too many miles on springs lol.
You might want to do some gearing too. Most places stock a 19t top. If it was a rental I would want to check the chain on it and at least change the oil out. Might as well do the gear while your in there.

Did tension the chain and changed oil. I'm not going to get too carried away with his sled. Sounds like the spring was the big culpret though. Thanks again.
