Dish or Direct?

So we have talked about the best TV's and the best sound systems, so which is better, Dish Network or DirecTv?

I have had DirecTV for several years now and have never had a problem w/ service. Here a few months ago Dish was offering a good deal for a receiver with DVR. I subscribed and the earliest they could do the install was a week later and they said someone had to be home from 12:00 to 5:00 PM. I waited all afternoon and the guy never showed up. Right before 5 I get a call saying he is running late, but will be there by 7 at the latest. He never showed up. I call dish and they could not give my an explanation why the installer never showed up, they tried to call and they said he would not answer his phone. I was tired of them wasting my time with there very poor customer service so I cancelled the order. DISH NETWORK CAN KISS MY WHITE A$$!!

I have had both... Customer service was sixes for me, but i wish I still had direcTV.. The DVR, HD, Menus, Controller, Channel setup, PPV are all better and much easier to deal with.. OF course thats debateable but I have hated DISH ever since i got it and like Directv much better..

So one more vote for DirecTV

Had DirecTV for 8 years. I switched to Dish when DTV wanted big bucks to upgrade to HD. Wish I'd have sucked it up and stuck w/ Direct. Dish Network can kiss my white a$$ as well! Customer service is HORRIBLE.

I have had direct tv for, geeze 12 or so years. We had a generation 1 receiver.
I have had zero problems with them. The only time i have had problems with signal strength is when a MAJOR storm is passing over.

I have dish network with HD and DVR and it sucks. My HD channels go out when it gets windy, cloudy, or starts raining. I can still watch digital channels, but it gets annoying after awhile. I think the dish is pointed to gather a signal from 2 sattelites and it doesn't get the HD signal very good. The DVD receiver is a joke. I am on my second one and after the first one gave up the ghost I had to pay $15 to have a replacement sent out. This was only 3 or so months after they installed it. My second receiver is acting up and I called customer service and they wanted to sell me a $100 service plan or pay $15 to send out another receiver. I told them to stuff it because the receiver should have some warranty and if they wanted to charge me to fix their equipment, I do have other choices as to where I could spend my money. Since then the damn receiver has worked flawless... go figure.

Glad to see this thread. I have been on DirectTV for about 6 years but I also got the offer from Dish for the cheaper service and the DVR and I was thinking about pulling the trigger. Looks like I won't now.:)

I have both, at different places. I prefer Direct because they have Fuel TV. Dish doesn't offer it. That was the decision maker to get switched to Direct and leave the Dish Network at my brother's house.

I have had Dish since 1996 so I guess i don't know any better. Customer service at Dish Network is complete bullchit. It is a fight every time I have to call and apparently customer loyality doesn't count for anything. I hate dealing with people in India that say their name is David.

By the sounds of everyone on here that has had both, it may be time to switch.

I am so glad that I saw this thread. I just signed up for Direct TV and they haven't even been able to come out and set it up so I was kinda double guessing it, but after reading this I think I am going to keep it.

Funny I had the EXACT situation with DirecTV. and went back to Dish Network. The installers are all on a contracted basis when you go through Dish or DirecTV via Internet or Phone. I've found you get much better service on the installation by going directly to the installers. They get a sales commision on the service this way and seem to be much more interested in working with your schedule.

Now I've gone rounds with the so called customer service with Dish too many times and I'm going back to DirecTV when I move. Although I'm hoping I can come accross a good cable company that offers the TV service, Cable Internet and phone at a good price but I'm not betting on it.

directv..its so easy to set up your self.when i got mine you had to pay 800.00 dollars and i was on a waiting list..no problems ever (1992) why change !!!!

i get bell and dish if one is down i watch the other never a problem!

Ive had both, have had equally crappy customer service from both. Have Dish now and miss NFL Sunday ticket, but went with Dish because Direct didnt have local channels in my area, other than that they both have good and bad.
