I know there are several companys making side/clutch vents. Now whos are the best as far as light weight but still strong enough to with stand a little beating now and then

I agree with making them on your own. A hole saw and some screen and good glue and you are set. Worst case is you don't like them and new side pannels are only 30.00 each so have some fun this summer
The mesh or screen is pet screen, you should be able to get it at a local hardware store. You can use plastic or aluminum to make the frame for the screen. I used a paper bag to make a template for the frame and then transfer that to your frame material.

I used plastic. We get some scrap pieces at work once in a while that are big enough to make a frame.
I also made my own.....made a template out of thinner plastic, and transfered it onto sheet metal (thats what I had). Then cut them out with a jig saw, smoothed the edges and painted them!
As for screen I got mine at Menards.....I actually did 2 layers, the outside layer is of the pet screening (the strong stuff, but bigger holes) and the inside layer of normal screening for mosquitoes (not as strong, but much smaller holes)

The vent frame material can be bought at Parts Express. They are the on line audio parts place. Just find their 1/8" ABS plastic. Theirs comes in 12 x 24" sheets and is smooth on one side and textured on the other. Something like $7.00 a sheet. Exact same stuff you would get from XXX side vent company. do your own fabrication and save the balance for gas $$. Plastic pet screen from Menards and some rivets and you are good to go. Cut the side vents and use the cut outs to make some shock tower vents.

I went with the fastlane vents on my 08 M, and 2cool vents on my 07Dragon. I'd go with Tammy (2cool) if I was to do it again.
