big dawg shootout

Yes it was set for April 19th, 2008. But as of todays date we still do not have insurance. So as it stands right now there will be no event this year. So unless a horseshoe falls from the sky real soon the greatest snowmobile show on earth is on hold.

Thanks for your interest in the BDSO

What about an unsanctioned event? It would be a shame not to have this go ahead! It brings a lot of business to the local area! I was also blown away last year on where these turbo sleds could go and was sooooo looking forward to seeing it again this year.

Its to big of a show to be unsanctioned. Its going the way of the BIS did in attendance now. We remember that year all the carnage happened and people started to look at the organizer to lay blame. We expect it to be huge this year and we as organizers now half to protect our azz.

We got off lucky last year. Don`t think for a minute if Tim would have got seriously injured that somebody would not have been looking at us for some kind of compensation. We know Tim would not but he has a family to provide for bills to pay etc. Hell forget about the few guys actually doing the climbing. What about all the parting spectators who decide to have a few to many on the hill and hurt themselves doing something stupid while in attendance.

Nobody wants to take responsibility for their actions anymore. That is why we have to have insurance to keep this event alive. Not to mention we have a few sponsors who are willing to help out but insurance needs to be in place before any will pony up. :(

Don`t get me wrong something could possibly happen this year but in will be by invite only at a undisclosed area and go back to a true outlaw event.

Yes it blows me away how the town wants this to happen but really does not want to do anything to help out. Except for Dave at the PVL and Lincoln(not the snowmo club)we have seen no support from the town. Rumor has it they were asked to help out financially but said its not in their budget(third hand news to me remember). But last year had no problem making money off the event with the influx of a 1000 plus peeps opening thier wallets in there town. With last years success as a proven event which would only grow in size you would think they would be all over it. There is huge potential to turn this into a haydays kind of thing. As you already know the snowmo club turned down the offer to take it over also.

Just curious...is the problem that insurance is too expensive?...or not available for an event of this type?

Could a booth be set up to collect a toll for the groomer and insurance fee? (last year they were collecting for the groomer at the trailhead...and I never once saw a groomer or rode on a groomed road.)

Just a thought

Thanks,

Shawn, you and Paul have put so much effort in this event, which I feel is The best there is for all of us who share this Passion, So why not get ahold of some of the filmers DocZoom(Greg) and Tom at 509 films and the others that have segments in thier films showing the BigDawg.Like modsledr said charge a Fee for all going to the event, and if no one wants to Pay it, for the Best show on Earth IMO then you know were this is going.Find out how much to insure event then do the numbers, I know it's alot of work, but I have the Faith in you, and maybe others will step up. Cheers Red Dog

I was one of the ones collecting at the trailhead last year. The trail was groomed although with huge traffic it just doesn't last. The money also went towards other things, including getting a cat to make the huge parking area YOU parked in. FYI A typical grooming charge for that trail is around $1100.

Insurance

No way in a million years would an insurance company assume responsibility for such an event, good luck.

Red Dog, I agree...these guys have done such a fantastic job building this event up, it would be a shame to lose that momentum.

So I have to assume the issue is no unsurance company willing to underwrite the event, like AdrenalineAddiction said??

Shawn, have you tried Lloyds of London? If not, PM me, I may be able to get you a contact there.

What we have been told so far is that if it was just the drags races we could have insurance.Where the problem lies is with this hillclimbing portion. The underwriter is having a problem with that.

Now I am going to try and get some info from the National Motorsports Inc. See what they have to say.

Money for the insurance as it stands right now has been taken care of. We just need a dollar number and a policy.

Thanks for all your positive remarks

Long live the BDSO

What he said. We have the funding for the Insurance just need someone to Insure the event, hopefully it will not die. Like Hardkore said it will always go on just smaller at an undisclosed location, with rideing buddies.

So why not make the drag portion the official event? You could even "rope off" that area...have all entrants sign a waiver, and all riding outside of that area would not be part of the event?

You could even do the waiver at the toll booth...everyone who passes through signs a waiver that clearly states what is and is not part of the event?

so why couldnt you make everyone who buys a trail pass in the morning at the parking lot sign a waiver, then this way you have ther name and that they are on ther own if anything happens.
i know its alot easier said than done. SP
