Sad news

Very sad news. :(

My Prayers to the involved families too. :brokenheart:

I don't think I would be of much help in the search, as I am currently in Cle Elum and I do not know the area at all. Never ridden the area.

Please keep us posted as the details unfold.

Still no details...... Sounds like a recovery mission at this point:face-icon-small-sad

Just got some info from friends. I know info can change, but this is what I have been told.
The slide was over on the backside of the widowmaker somewhere.
I don't know the girl, but they brought her out last night.
Through friends I know the man who is missing. Out of respect, I am not posting his name. He is a real good guy, a family man, a gifted sled mechanic and rider.
Been riding here for years!
Thoughts and prayers go out to his family and many friends.:brokenheart::rose::face-icon-small-sad

Avy on Baker

Thanks. Many members from Whatcom Snowmobile Association went up last night. My boyfriend and another good friend stayed with the family last night to be there this morning to help. My friend lives to where she can see others sledders going up to help. She just saw three more trucks go up.

I'm very sorry to hear about your friends.:(

I know the many of the Glacier Cruisers from Skagit County were scrambling last night and this morning to get up and do what they could to help. I made many calls myself.

MOUNT BAKER, Wash. -- One person was killed and another remains missing after five snowmobilers were swept down a slope Tuesday in an avalanche north of Mount Baker in Whatcom County.

Deputy George Ratayczak said the five snowmobilers were in the Excelsior Pass area north of the mountain Tuesday afternoon when they were caught in an avalanche about 1 p.m. and swept several hundred feet downhill.

About an hour after the slide, search and rescue crews located the body of a woman who was wearing an an avalanche beacon. One person who was buried in the snow suffered a minor leg injury, and two others were uninjured.

About 20 volunteers resumed their search Wednesday morning for the fifth snowmobiler.

Ratayczak said the snowmobilers were on a slope at about the 5,300-foot level in five to six feet of snow when the avalanche occurred.

The names of those involved have not been released.

Very Humbling way to end New Years Day

My Brother and I were headed to the truck to load up when we ran into the guy who's wife was a victim of the avy. It was about 3:00. We rode back up with him to help and dug for atleast 3 hours. It was incredible the amount of snow that came down and the amount of people who came to help. My thoughts and prayers are with both families that are dealing with this tradgedy.

The Whatcom County Sheriff's office says the victims are a 63-year-old man and a 43-year-old woman. The woman was found dead about an hour after the snow slide.

The man was found just after noon Wednesday. Officials say he is a long-standing member of Whatcom County Search and Rescue. He was considered to be familiar with the area and had the necessary survival skills. Officials say he recently obtained an avalanche beacon, but it was unclear if he had been wearing it.

The man's son was believed to be with the group at the time of the avalanche.

One of the victims suffered a leg injury and was buried in the snow, but was able to get free.

About 50 searchers trekked more than 10 miles into the backcountry, using snowmobiles and dogs.

The identities of the victims have not been released.
