sorry guys, been a tad bizy around here...

posted a few of these tips on social media but here is what I recommend...

1) remove all felt bs (keep 1 piece under air box)
2) cut lower half clutch guard off (below belt holder)
3) add DIY 2" hot air exhaust vents on back of each side panel
4) clean clutches if new, clean clutches if not new
5) high altitude only (7000-10+) keep std mtn pin 16.7 gram and add a doo 417127039 qrs spring, 7800-7900 rpm MAX!!!!!@!!!!!!!
6) ANY elevation BELOW 7000' needs a heavier pin, use goodwin performance heavy pin kit....
19 grams 5-8000
21 grams 3-6000
24 grams 0-3000
use clickers 2-3-4 as needed if there is an over lap of elevation...
7) did I mention 7800-7900 rpm MAX???!!!
8) ALL 2.5" track sleds gear UP 1 tooth on top
9) any lighter fellas (under 180 lbs) on a 3" track could gear up 1 also but the above clutching is required
10) you take a break?? open your panels and give sled a break...

I have a stage 2 hi/low clutch kit in the works with new ramps but still not ironed out...

I am also waiting for the MPI turbo kit and have a solid clutch/gear combo waiting...

stone obvious stuff, keep belt, track and chain adjusted properly (tighter is better than looser)...BJ:face-icon-small-coo

My late production 165x 3"
Came with the 27039 black secondary spring!?!
Primary spring looks black as well?
I ordered it for high elevation
IMG_5475.jpg

Couldnt get a clear pic. Of primary spring
Also have not riden it yet.. :(

I cleaned the clutches very well and a puddle of oil still developed at bottom of clutch area
And the belt deflection from dealer set-up was very loose

springs are all black now..you have to look at the writing etched on the spring itself

BigJohn,
What is the purpose of the big felt piece under airbox? Is it bad if I removed it already??
Thanks!

any recommendations on an exhaust canister to free up some room for a muffpot and shed weight?

have run both dyno port trail and BCB at elevation and work well...waiting on HPS...rest??

big felt peice is just to keep air box from getting too hot-BJ

Are you still recommending the black spring for 2-3k? Also on the 38mm Goodwin kit are you just stacking more weight on? say the 7mm weight with a 3mm?

Not on the 850. We want to get baseline setup for the 3" We spent 3 days in Togwotee a couple weeks ago testing.

We did have a 14' with us that had our trail porting. About the same HP as the 850.

We had a 156 2.8 on that machine with the P-Drive as well.

We ended up with I think an identical set up in this as Johns 850.

I spent a day on the 14 and it ran very well. The 2.8 is brand new and has not taken a set so is a little trench, but when backing off the throttle the sled popped right on top of the snow again. Even while trenching I was still moving forward. Plus, we are in early season snow with minimal base but I went everywhere 2 850 165 3" went.

The P-drive is very responsive and we saw no RPM change going from track poaching to powder, back to track poaching.

I like the 2.8 and plan to run one when funds allow on my own machine. I think after a hundred miles or so it will perform as advertised.

Interesting I saw the same thing with my 2.8 today, when I let out of the throttle the sled would pull on top of the snow and not trench, but under full throttle would trench worse it seemed. My track is new also.

Big John do you recommend 51-23 or 49/21 gearing for the 165 x 2.5"? Stock is 51/21. Thanks.

call BigJohn in the morning @ 612.718.3861.

he will have the answers you seek. The Stock Doo set up is lacking. Wrong secondary spring and not enough pin weight.
