2017 MC modifications?

Hi guys,

I have a 2014 PRO RMK 163" with some modifications (gear down kit, slp stage2, elka stage 5, etc). I'm putting it for sale.

I have the opportunity to be sponsored by a local dealer & Arctic-Cat. It's not 100% official but there is good chance i jump with Arctic-Cat.

My first choice was an Axys since i rode it for a week last year and i was impress with how it was better than my modified 2014 PRO RMK.

I'm not trying to bash Arctic-Cat over Polaris and the Axys but what are the best mods on the new MC 162" 3 inch to be in the same ball park than the Axys? Maybe they are in the same ball park but i have no experience riding a Cat.

I'm 6'4, 210 lbs. Depending on the sponsorship for aftermarket pars, i'm also ready to put 3000$ in modifications. I'm riding 100% in tight trees and technical terrain.

Thanks

bmfab skinny boards, kmod steering mod, gripper skis are the obvious ones. after that is just preference. I'm going with a Barcode performance front end myself..

SO QUESTION IF U ARE SPONSORED BY CAT.... DO YOU NEED TO RUN CAT ITEMS? IE: CAT BOARDS.... CASMO TRACK AND SUCH..? HOW FAR CAN YOU MOD CAN U RUN POLARIS GRIPPERS ON A CAT SLED?

my guess would be just lighten it a bit. and get rid of the shovel snoflap.

Thanks, is BMFAB skinny board is a major upgrade vs new running board on the mountain cat (1" narrower)

I tried to read a bit about the kmod steering mod. You get a higher turning radius? It is a game changer ?

I knew about the grippers but i wasn't sure because of the new skis?

Big weight reduce i guess is by exhaust and belt drive kit?

I saw on TKI website there is an oiless version, oil delete...? I'm not sure to understand that part?

You delete the oil pump and tank. You have to premix your oil with the gas, just like a 2 stroke weed eater or motocross bike.

yep or anything under 50/1. i go 32.1 as oil make more power to an extent. between the oil delete and a can you kick off 23 lbs. you can get the cat real close to the axis for not too much but you will never get the 20 lbs of motor weight the cat has over axis motor. and im fine with that. :) there is a reason you dont find threads in the cat section asking about fix kits and how many problem free miles you have on your 16.

I rode a 162" 3" 2016 for about 30 minutes. Is there a way to improve the low end grunt? I was amaze by the difference between the low end of the axys vs cat. I guess the Y-pipe and belt drive with good clutching might do the trick?

What about the steering post? With the vertical there is no more loose?

Clutching sucks stock. Needs a 43 deg helix, speedwerx 120/310 primary spring with spring adapter, and a speedwerx secondary spring to match stock rate after the stock one sacks out in a few hundred miles. You can try aftermarket weights too. MDS work well under 11000 ft. I also put a Thunder Products metal glide washer under the spring in the primary.

I think gearing has a lot to do with the bottom end problems. I lowered my gearing on my 16 limited and noticed a big change on how it comes out of the gate. You can fully customize that if you're going with a belt drive.

And as far as weight remember the gap between the two sleds with 3" tracks isn't nearly as much where the Polaris uses a chain on the 3" models. And the poo guys always call bs but weight really isn't a factor when you account for how little snow the cats collect versus the Polaris. An hour in deep snow and I'm sure they weigh about the same.

Being that the 17 MC uses 8 tooth drivers, the stock 19/50 gearing is pretty good if you are riding above 9K ft.

I run 20/49 on my 16 with 7 tooth drivers.

I'm riding east Canada, Québec mostly around 3k.

I guess it is different for me about clutching and gearing...

If I was setting up a new MC with a $3K mod budget this is what I'd do:
1. Tube Running boards: $450
- Adds a couple pounds but the added rigidity and transfer of rider input to the sled is well worth it.
- Sheds snow a little better.
- More aggressive grip.
2. Diamond S Quiet Can: $580
- 16.5lb loss over the ceramic coated stock can.
- +4hp
3. Clutching: $400
- Pick your poison.
4. Hood with intake and headlight delete: $400
- 12lb loss
5. Belt drive with oil injection delete: $900
- 11.5lb loss
- More responsive.
- Gear up to 2.42 ratio.
- Pre-mix gas seems to run cleaner. I mix mine 32:1 even though 40:1 is a common recommendation.
6. Toms Shock Revalve: $360?
- Make your ride enjoyable.
7. Strip/streamline some "unnecessary" parts:
- Underhood foam and clutch side duct
- Skid idler wheels
- Trim Skag bolts
- Snow Flap
- SLP LED tail light: $20
- Loose 6lb

Comes in at about $3100 and loses about 44lb. Replace the shock revalve with skis if you want. '16+ skis are tolerable for me.

i would think hood and pipe and tweak the clutches after some riding. maybe just a can. let the powerclaw do work!

stage 2... and look at the new casmo track 10lbs of rotating mass is a lot cat skinny boards are good looking boards they feel good too!!!

performance wise i looked at the bikeman stage 1... huge gains almost too good to be true. Any feedback on their kit?
