Timbersled - cracked side panel?

Anyone seen this before? 2013 kit LH side panel just forward of the front suspension connection. No big hits or jumping and this was a replacement panel I put on in 2014 (one season since I don't count last year...). Its a pretty clean break and I didn't even notice it until sitting in the garage this evening.

My last panel taco'd from hitting a stump and this one cracked from regular use? I can't imagine the material would be that brittle or that it would fatigue from this little use. Weird...

Kell, I had a 2012 kit that cracked in the same location only on the right side panel. No hits to blame. Not certain but, assume it was from flexing.

I've seen them crack there as well, I think we will see a lot more as the kits age.

Dang man. Too bad you don't know anyone with a CNC plasma table that could whip out a new one for you before next weekend.

Ha! I think his table is too small! Plus I already straightened the one I bent a couple years ago to keep as my spare. I'll throw it on this weekend as well as a new head gasket and I should be snow (or slush...) bound for next weekend.

Still pissed this one just broke for no apparent reason. This type of thing doesn't help my confidence in the product...

The older kits had pretty tall sidepanels which had more flex then the newer (15+) kits which makes them slightly more prone to breakage. Haven't seen any new ones break even with lots of hours.


I have seen it more on 2 stroke bikes. Bust out the tig welder and some paint and go out and shred it.The vibs/flexing on the older kits take that spot out over time, again, seems to be more dependant on what bike it was strapped to.

Hmmm, an aluminum framed CR500...yeah that could be a worst case scenario.


Good thing I have two so one can always be in the shop.

Haha, yes, that will be the first bike to break stuff from vibes! Had a buddy with a YZ250 taken out to a 300 was the only one I have seen like that in person, but same gig.
