Making the XM Deep Snow Worthy

Im new to Doo, coming off a M-series. I have a 163" T-3 on the way and cant wait for it.

How do the XM's do in the deep snow stock. In 2+ft of powder, how do the stock intake and exhaust work? Do a lot of people experience deep powder bogs? If so are there any fixes out there?

Any input or words of advice would be appreciated.

If the front grill is open on the T3's like on the SP & X models, I recommend making some kind of mesh cover. Otherwise snow fills the nose cone, packing around the pipe, and can pull enough heat out of the pipe to make it run like crap (there's a thread around here somewhere). Not to mention the 15 lb plug of ice that forms..

The exhaust deflector is far from adequate in my experience. I just made one out of aluminum sheet metal and riveted it onto the belly pan. Much better. For a while, on the deepest days, I couldn't right hand side hill for more than about 20 feet.:mad2: But that was a quick fix.

If you're going to keep the stock hood, seal up the glove box with weather stripping or silicone sealer. It is far from water tight in there.

I didn't see many complaints about any of this, but they were legitimate issues I had. Otherwise my sled has been spot on. 1200 miles on the original belt, and I might change it before next year.

The air intakes still suck. Even though they are now on both sides and are much improved, they clog with snow and need wiped off every other turn if your GHACKIN the deep. Looking into a mod of the glove box for air intake...

My 2014 Summit X never caused me any problems in stock form, even in the deep. You may want to just ride it stock and see if all the internet dribble is worth spending money on.

The 2014 Summit X 163 is the first sled I have left stock. Liked it so well a snow checked 2015 Summit X 174 with the T-3 is on order.

The new XM with the T-3 is a mod sled straight from the factory with warranty.

The sled should perform very well in the deep pow. I had that setup last year on my 2014 X. Put on the 162x3 x3 track and I'll tell this it rocked everywhere. But the deeper it got the more others in the group spent in my tracks.

I did have the exhaust power big on once, 4ft pow day and stock suitcase, took it back off and put my Carbon can back on never had a bog again. HPS builds a great can as well no codes or bogs.

Intakes work lots better than what Doo has had in the past. Just remember to wipe them off every once in a while. No sled is free from that on a deep pow day.

Oh, defiantly buy the nose cone pre filter/ screen kit from Skidoo to keep the snow out of the front of the sled.

My 2014 X runs great, HPS can, Xtreme AirVents Intake cover, Doo seat bag,a few dress ups, more green FreeRide parts. Runs great stock!!:face-icon-small-coo

XM review

to be honest no other sled hold a candle to the XM I road all models this year. The cats need some mods to keep up with the XM's. road a cat stock and then after with clutching intake and exhaust mods huge improvement till we went to canada and road in anywhere from 4-6 foot of fresh powder. Road them side by side and really couldn't tell witch sled had the upper hand. That same trip road a 14 XM just like mine but with a Rosterbuilt clutch kit and HPS can and all I can say is wow huge difference absolutely smoked my stock XM. Then I road a stock 14 pro and that was a pretty huge let down all that side hill ability they have is lost when you cant even get very high up on the hill in the trees to play with everybody else. Then I road the 14 pro demo with a clutch kit in it and after you get passed the lack of low end power and learn how to ride it on the pipe it kept right up with my stock XM. A week later road the same 14 pro with a clutch kit in spring snow and it was pretty fun threw the trees compared to my XM. But i'm not buying a long track because they do good in spring snow or need mods to keep up with an out of the box XM. In the powder the xm is king I am defiantly going to be putting a rosterbuilt clutch kit and HPS can on my XM next year along with a 156 3'' track got the chance to ride a 15 T3 163 and all I can say is wow stock those things are animals just like the guy said above mod sled from the factory with warranty. The sled could use some clutching but if your comparing the T3 to a stock sled or moded sled nothing holds a candle except a turbo or big boar ride it stock and I'll bet you'll have trouble putting any extra money into it.

I ride most every weekend in Colorado once the snow starts falling. And get out during the week if a big storm rolls through and dumps a few few feet in a day. So I am fortunate to get quite a few deep pow days in through the year.

I think I will run a exhaust deflector, looks like slp makes a universal one, and skinz makes a one for the rev and xp which looks like it should work on the xm too. Once the sled arrives, I may just try to fab up my own. Worst case I spend 5$ on materials and it turns out Shi$@y.

I know TSS makes a tunnel dump can too, but I ideally just want to stick with the stock can.

Cant wait for this thing to show up!

Yup, pray for October!

Saw pics of somebody getting their sled around thanksgiving last year. I'll be freaking out if that happens.

I run a Diamond-S mesh hood, a foam filter with pre-filter on the stock airbox. I don't think there is a better setup to avoid bogging from a clogged intake or underhood heat. Our snow is heavier/wetter than most but I know of guys in Mt/Co that run the same setup with no issues of snow o water getting through the mesh...the occasional drip if the sled sits. Seems to shed snow as good as the stock hood and takes a rollover fine.
It also drops 12-13lbs and everything runs cooler.

No issues with bogging or clogged intakes...plenty of handlebar deep days.

I am lucky to ride Colorado Champagne Pow so it does not stick and stack up like snow in other regions.

If anything my recommendation would be to buy the after market grill covers for the stock vents. The stock seem to tear readily when rubbing trees. I forget who makes them?

Tom, with the stock hood, I had powder bog a number of times... looked for a deflector, then hit a tree & ended up buying a Diamond S hood. NOT ONCE since then.

I've ridden my snowball with bars sticking out in over hood a bunch of times this year & am very happy with the hood.

Get the Poo skis, do a post forward, and have fun. If you get pow bog you can't fix with a home made deflector... look at the D-S hood.

Yep, deep powder is a problem! I have powder valves on my rmk assault that work, gonna try it on the summit
