interesting CE 2.5 mod

Mike installed a CE 2.5 on his PRO. He cut .200" off the outside lugs height and left the center ones the original height.
This may be the next new trick. Mike rode it on Saturday and I have been riding it the last two days. Conditions have been from 2' of fresh powder to heavy wet snow. Its ability to climb and get up on the snow quickly has been phenomenal. We have some CE 2.5 in the group and this track mod is killing them. The sled went from a so so sled to a killer.
I am going to do this track mod to my CE 2.5 on the turbo sled. Time will tell, but with the past few days on the snow, it makes me grin.

Like this?
I did this last season to my stock track, and i did really like it. In setup snow it hooks up so much better then the stock track does.

edit: MH, sorry for that. Lesson learned.
Here it is:

I think it evacuates better. With that said a CE 2.5 completely trimmed .200" can't compete with this mod. I have one.
Does the tracks centered added weight bow under acceleration causing the lift and track speed. I can't answer that.
Is it the staggered bite??? All I know is it works.
Riding this sled you do not feel the commonly associated vibration from the snow trying to stuff through the tunnel as you do with the stock CE 2.5.
Wonder what it would do on an X3.

Also wonder if this will help on hard pack long-azz sidehills on windblown faces??

Which drivers are you running with this track... Which Ch Extreme track?

Stock drivers and the 9105.
Will try the wind blown as soon as we get some. :)
Missed only 7-8 days of the last 45 days of riding. It's been a tough job.

I wounder if this would work on the stock track? Maybe just cut the outer lug hmm.

Ski Doo

I was thinking Ski Doo did that with the 2" and cut the outside to 1.75 years ago.?.?.?

If ur talking about Mike from Powell, no wonder he was able to pull me on the trail :-) good to know!!

If I recall correctly the doos had 2" on the outside lugs and 1.75" on the inner lugs.

That's what I remember too.

I have been contemplating in my head all winter the possibility of taking an X3 and cutting the outer lugs down to 2.5" or 2.75" and leaving the center lugs 3". I would hate to be the guinea pig for this scheme but it might have the stiffer bite on the outside lugs yet the flexi floaty lugs in the middle.

If someone has a lot of cash to blow they could provide me with the track and I will test it all next winter at no charge!

Isn't this similar to the F-Bomb track mod? From memory the F-Bomb mod is all the lugs correct? Sounds like it could be the hot ticket for our coastal snow and still work well in the inland Champagne powder. Anyone try it with other tracks? The Peak or________?

I did the f-bomb mod last spring on my 13 pro with stock track.
I worked good in the spring time conditions but I actually feel like my sled lost some performance in the powder.
It just doesn't seem to stay on top as much and starts to dig down more when losing speed in the drier powder.
It made my sled less forgiving, where as before the mod it would just chew away and keep climbing not so much now. Again this is in powder.
In Spring time with set up snow it works well.

I have tried the f-bomb track mod. The outcome was not pleasurable in my neck of the woods. I cut the stock track after the lugs started to roll, this may contributed to the failure.
A .200" cut CE 2.5 on a PRO was another story, it worked awesome in all conditions, until this mod showed up.

I've noticed on the snowbikes we ride with they all have the tall center lugs and shorter outers. Great all year except dry deep powder. And its definitly a noticeable trend towards trenching. Could just be the nature of the beast but they do great in deep wet snow. I was also told a rumor that camoplast is designing a track to fix this on the snowbikes.

I honestly feel that this "mod" has been tried by the almighty track designers and there is a reason you dont see it come from the factory like that.

To each their own, im glad your having a great experience with the mod but I would like to see how it compares in dry bottomless powder as well.

Just my thoughts...

Did it to the turbo this morning, took about 15 min.
The outside lugs were starting to roll over after a couple rides on the new track.(minimal track clearance). The 2.5" was having trouble shoveling the snow through the tunnel when riding in the "Sierra Cement" late yesterday. Here are some pictures. And a link to a short video of the trim process. https://vimeo.com/93208504
