Well-known member
We, Howard and Cheryl Jones, are the new managers at WHC.

We apologize for not introducing ourselves sooner, but we have spent the last few months whipping the Lodge back into shape! You will find it clean, cozy and welcoming.

Howard and I moved to the Big Horns from just south of Jackson, WY. We lived in Star Valley for 12 years and we are really excited about our new backyard!

We are novice snowmobilers, but are doing our best to learn. This powder has a steep learning curve! We are hoping some of you experts will take a minute to give us some pointers when you stop in.

We LOVE Wyoming winters and our plan is to be here for along time. We do a lot of cross country skiing with our 4 dogs, all of whom will greet you with barks and tail wagging when you stop in!

We have owned a restaurant in the past and our style is comfort food at an affordable price. The days of the $10.00 burgers are gone folks. You can get a burger (no extra charge for cheese) lettuce, tomato and onion, chips and either iced tea, lemonade, hot chocolate or coffee, for $6.50, any day of the week. We will also offer different lunch specials, from chili to BBQ pork, at prices that won't break the bank.

We have fuel for $4.95 a gallon this season and you can still get you Snowmobile stickers here.

We are installing a TON of coat hangars on our heated, enclosed porch for you to hang your gear and get it drying for the rest of your daily adventure. The bathrooms are warm and clean, and the fire will always be blazing.

We are really looking forward to seeing you all up here. BTW, we are planning to join SnoWest and pay our share, it's only right. And we will be more diligent with our snow updates. You can also follow us at https://www.facebook.com/pages/Wyoming-High-Country-Lodge/497646536975659

Thanks! Howard and Cheryl Jones

PS:
To dispel any rumors, Corey and Dawnie were NOT fired from Elkview. They have moved back to Colorado as some of their property was affected by the floods there and needed their attention.

Are you a democrat or republican?
Pro hunting, fishing, killing wolves or tree hugging animal rights activist?
Antiperspirant or deodorant?

$10 meals are fine, just make sure there is chili or hot soup around to warm a guy up! We'll be up there whenever we get to the horns this year, always love stopping in there for lunch.

??

This is interesting as I have always like wy high country and visit 10 times a year easy. While I do not want to be pushy nor do I know if it is any of my business I think you may be doing yourself a favor to educate the snowesters on your political viewpoint. Just so the ruckus settles down. Obviously you have to like snowmobiling or you would not have this job so that speaks for itself. I think that if you just tell people you will be doing yourself a favor. Good Luck

There's ruckus about our POLITICAL views? We hadn't heard that.

And we thought coming to the Lodge and doing a good job, being as friendly and accommodating as we could, providing great food at reasonable prices and LOVING being here were all that mattered, lol.

What political views did you all want to know about? Party...hmm, I guess we'd be Libertarians. Hunters? Howard hunts. Tree Huggers, well can you be a tree hugger and a hunter? Vegetarian...nope.

What have I missed?

Thank you for posting on snowest, it is always nice to hear the snow report from where you want to go especially if it's accurate.

That being said, Before you joined it was discussed that the new managers of high country lodge (presumably you??) are affiliated with a pro-wolf group. I'd like to know if there's any validity to that.

Simple question.

Simple answer: we are pro-sound, science based, management of ALL species.

No $10 hamburgers? Man I'm sure gonna miss that!

All these posts about WYHC and no mention of beer. I presume you will be keeping the cooler stocked with cold adult beverages right?

You have missed the assumption that your possibly against what alot of the people in this part of the state stand for. I was trying to help you out not be offensive so please do not take it as that. I was just trying to facilitate the cleaning of the air if you will. I look forward to your good food and service as well as a few beers. I for one am glad that the lodge is still open and have often made my way over your way for nothing more than to throw a few bucks your way in hope that the lodge is able to make end meet hence be there in the future. I can see however where many people could take sides on the wolf management issue. It could be similar to a member of P.E.T.A. knowingly spend their hard earned money to attend and NRA function. Just my thoughts?

You have missed the assumption that your possibly against what alot of the people in this part of the state stand for.

If a lot of people in the State stand for the right to legally hunt, whether it's elk, beaver, bear or wolves, then we are not "against" anyone.

BTW, just as a aside, if you've been here before then you, no doubt, saw a couple of big beautiful "dogs" last winter. Are the folks that love and raised them against what most people in the State are for? Were they harangued for raising and loving those wolf-hybrids, or was how they ran the Lodge and treated folks more important?

One could take that answer many ways, worst of which being that you believe your ideals are "correct" and everyone that doesn't agree is ignorant. I'm guessing you don't mean to portray that??

The question is are you part of a pro-wolf group? It's a simple yes or no question, no need to dance around it.

This is a legitimate question for those of us in the area. I would not think less of you either way as you are entitled to your opinions.

Those of us that have had a chance to view the spotting scopes facebook page https://www.facebook.com/pages/The-Spotting-Scope/103953023060983 know what it is about and what it entails by the posts that the Spotting Scope and others talk about. The fact that you do not admit to operating that facebook page or Magazine shows that you are insecure about letting us know who you really are. And thus should be, This is not Jackson.

Hypocrite comes to mind. Yes, you are running mainly a hunting and snowmobile lodge. I wish I could live in a spot like that and even I might put up with the tree huggers that pass through. Why don't you post on The Spotting Scope that you cater to Wolf hunters and that you are a hunting lodge?

To all others, I was not able to make it but my husband my father and father in law stopped in at High Country during hunting season for a few drinks thinking the managers have changed again. Although they did not turn them away for wearing camo and orange, they did not feel as though they where wanted. The lady disappeared as soon as the baseball game was turned on and the gentleman sat at his computer glued to the screen the 2 hours they where there.

Oh well, time will pass new managers will take to the lodge as it happens every year. Then I will be back having some chili at the lodge once again. Good Day.

I have never believed that my ideas are the only ideas and everyone else is ignorant. The fact is that my personal belief is that everyone has a right to their opinion. There is a saying that I hold dear. I may not believe in what you have to say, but I will defend your right to say it.

We were members of WolfWatcher, have not been for about a year as we are TOTALLY against extremists on ANY side of an issue and, in our opinion, this group was moving in a direction we chose not to go.

We have a FB page called The Spotting Scope, which you can certainly check out. We have been Yellowstone junkies for more than 10 years, hanging out there for most of our off time. We have watched wolves, bears, elk, sheep, and all of the fauna in the GYE. And, again, we are PRO sound, science based management of wildlife.

I hope this puts an end to the discussion of our politics and we can all move forward to getting out in the Winter wonderland of the Big Horns. I also hope you will all stop by the Lodge.

WYSteph, I admitted it to you when you PM'd me on my personal FB page after the previous managers left. I have NEVER hidden the fact and you have been involved in previous posts on this board when you brought this up YET AGAIN.

You do not even KNOW us and yet you persist in this bringing this up again and again!

We are very happy to be managing the Lodge and very happy to welcome everyone who stops in. The discussion of our personal politics is over. We will gladly provide snow reports, event updates and great service and food at the Lodge.

Doesn't take a scientist to tell me how to control wolf population.

Bottom line. People want to know that when the CHOOSE to spend their hard earned republican money on a meal, gas, beer at a lodge. They want to know the money is going to and supporting the things they do and love. Most snowmobiles in Wyoming also hunt, therefore they also have a built in hatred of the wolf. Lately were seeing a lot of our rights as wyo residents being slowly stripped away. Which is causing us to question who we support, especially when it comes to the things we do for fun, after we busted *** all week at work for our money. When we support a business we want to know they support out way of life and our way of thinking.

I don't doubt you guys manage a business well, and I'm sure the food is good and the beer is cold. Sometimes that just isn't enough to keep True wyomingites coming back for more.

You admitted it to me not Snowest. I bring it up because we snowmobilers stick together just like yupi wolf people stick together to protect them.
