Minimalist controls

I have a 2010 summit Ptek no electric start and I am working on getting rid of the block on the left side of the handlebar (heater controls, light control and reverse).

What I would like is the same setup as the freeride in 2012, has anyone else done what I am trying to accomplish? I like the look of the stock, what I am looking at getting is the stock wiring harness for a 2007 Summit XRS so it will have the little orange start/reverse button, the toggle light switch and heater controls down on dash area.

Any insight or pictures of what you guys have done would be great!!!

let me know if you get something worked out, i'd love to get rid of that huge block on my 12. been thinking of taking the front half and just mounting it to the cowl around where the steering stem is. need room for my lefty, rode all last year without it, won't ride again until its mounted...

I'm going down 2" on the riser and replacing my bent bars with fat bars and just want the freeride controls.

Is your '12 an E-tec?

RSI makes a cluster delete, or you can mount the front half to the hood or you can mount the block to your riser like I did. If I could figure out how to load pics I would. I used a straight section of my old bent bars and tapped out the center, then mounted it and the block to my riser. Simple and effective.

I used a momentary toggle for my grip and thumb heaters, and another toggle for head lights.
I then removed the micro switch out of the switch cluster and zip tied it to the bars. Works good

On my Rev, but same idea.

Stock set-up.

Used rocker switches for the hand/thumb warmers and mounted it on the gauge pod.

Used a KX killswitch and mounted it on the front side of my bars.
Hard wired the headlight on highbeam only.

Used a oldstyle RER switchand mounted it onto the console.

And a pic of the cleanest set-up I've done to date....on my Cat. Before the gauges got mounted.

yes its an etech.

Etecs are easy as you can buy the stock freeride steering harness and the switches and would be a plug and play for you.

I am ordering the steering harness for a 2007 summit XRS as that had the freeride controls with a Ptek motor. I will post pics as soon as it comes together. The RSI option is a good one but I really like to stock look but that's just me;)

It's good see that people still own XP's!!! This forum section has been DEAD since the XM was released!

The stock wiring harness that big of a deal? I mean, I'll do just about anything to avoid re-wiring stuff....but this is some pretty simply stuff. Took me longer getting the pod and console off than it did to re-wire everything.

What's the thought process behind buying a new steering harness?

The reasoning behind all of this is cause I do not want to cut and splice stuff into my harness, I am more than experienced to do that type of wiring but the stock stuff looks cleaner and also is plug and play. Call me anal but that is just me.:loco:

Update

The steering wiring harness I bought for a 07 summit XRS fit!!! Now I am going to order the freeride bars, the orange start/reverse switch, the headlight dimmer switch, heater switch and heater elements. Hopefully none will be on backorder and get it all together as we are getting snow at 4k ft today!!

UPDATE!!!

So I have finally had some time to install the parts. Here is the parts list that I used from BRP:

515176269-RER Switch
515176798-headlight switch
410107300-heater switch
515175281-heater switch cover (rubber black cover)
506152603-heaters x2
506152360-heater cork x2

Now these parts listed below are for hooking up your left heated grip, brake light switch and headlight switch. Requires connectors and pin connections (questions on this PM me):

409012900-male pins x2
409209400-connector (these are for RER switch)

515175819-connector (brake, heater, lights)
515175231-female pins x16

Here are the photos from start to finish:
