Ethanol plug in 12 rmk 600

Just doing a little thinking on this ethanol plug on the 600 rmk , what exactly does the 2 different positions do ? Different timing ? Different fuel delivery ? The sled in question will be driven by the wife so just kind of puttin around , would I be better to run the sled on the 10% ethanol and run regular ? Or don't worry about it and run premium plug and premium fuel? Just wondering if it will run hotter on premium plug and premium fuel? How would it run on premium fuel but on 10% ethanol plug?

10% ethanol plug introduces 5% more fuel than the non-ethanol plug.

I would definitely follow the manual. Use the plug with it's respective fuel recommendation. Try both, see which one works better for her.

IMO with the unknown quality of fuel at the pumps these days, i would use premium and run the ethanol resistor. The resistor alters the fuel curve as well as timing.

Always run non-eth where you can! The other fuel seems to create little demons in a sled :face-icon-small-win

I'm not doubting you, I just always read that it just added 5% fuel....

Does anyone know if there is a big performance difference between the two positions ? She don't need huge power but I don't want it to be boggy . I also don't want to worry about a midrange burn down with her maybe staying in the midrange to long , or have to worry about her getting the engine warm from not hitting enough fresh snow lol.

Mitty,
We have two '11 Pro's, 800/155's and they are bone stock. Mine has the NON ethanol plug. D's has the ethanol plug. We only burn ethanol free premium. (I use the kit and randomly check the fuel at our station, so far so good!!) :face-icon-small-ton

Jumping back and forth between the two my butt dyno doesn't feel a differance in power. I will say that D's sled consistantly runs a little cooler than mine, maybe a 10-12 degree differance on average.

I can't say much about fuel milage as I tend to play more than she does and that throws our daily milage and fuel burn off, but it's pretty close. Plus geared up for the day I weigh about 65 pounds more than she does. :face-icon-small-sho I keep trying to spend a trail day and mimic her riding just to compare . . . but . . . I . . . just . . . can't . . . do . . . it!!

That's about as close of a test as you can get. Two identical sleds, identical setups, same fuel, etc.

Hope this helps.

Yes sir thanks for your reply, I am going to run premium with no ethanol and leave the ethanol plug in the sled that we she will be as safe as it can get.

I've got a 2010 600 with the Ethanol wires. I fitted a waterproof rocker switch mounted to the top pedestal of my belt holder so I can switch between Ethanol and Clear gas. I have played around with it while riding and can't feel any difference so I just leave it on the Ethanol setting. If I could get a constant supply of good clear gas I would likely run the "Clear" setting, but I have heard that you need a completely clean system to think about using it. I might end up with a bit of Ethanol in the bottom of the tank, add Clear, then ride but I feel nervous so I leave it on Ethanol anyway.

I think you could wire in both plugs for the PRO to a switch like this if you needed (wanted) to. This way you don't have to remember where you left the other plug.

Ya on this 12 it's both plugs built into one plug kind of thing lol, you just turn the plug around to be in either mode. Don't know if that makes any sence lol

Last year when we put the premium plug in gained about 250 rpm's on our 800 and could tell a diffenece!! Run the premium plug and don't worry!!

Both plug settings are for premium fuel. One is for non-ethanol premium fuel and one is for ethanol premium fuel.

wow....i have had my sled panels and hood off like a dozen times and never even noticed this plug
knew about it, but thought it was for the 800's only!!! hahaha!

well I located the BRIGHT YELLOW plug tonight after reading this thread
looks like the dealer had it set on the ETH setting already....guess Ill leave it there

good thread

My dealer told me all sleds come with the ethanol plug in because the factory puts in ethanol fuel.

MN only has ethanol fuel?

Is this sled premium fuel only? Hmmm never really asked the dealer. I was just under the impression it was 87 friendly.

it reccomends MINIMUM 87 octane, but your suppose to have the ETH plugged in when running any fuel below 91 or containing any ETH

Our premium out west still has ethanol in it most of the time. There are just a few pumps around that handle the non-ethanol premium (clear). They are usually located somewhere where boats will fill up.
