I am getting ready to rebuild the DD on the M1000 and starting to put a parts list togther. My question is, when reassembling the case, can I use the gasket found on newer M6 models or will I have to use silicone?

You can call BDX, but I think the 05-06 Diamond Drives and the Diamond Lite were the only ones to share a gasket. There is now one available for the 09-10 cases as well, and possibly the others. I would just call and ask them

How long have you lived in Indiana? Have you checked out www.johndee.com?

Some cases that did not come with the gasket may need to be shimmed for the extra width of the gasket. This is what I have read. I use what was in there when I split it, so far none have had the gasket.
Three Bond is the gasket maker I use.

there is a gasket kit available for the 07's that has two shims for the bearing pockets on both sides of the case to account for the gasket width. not sure if the shims and slightly changing the internal spacing had anything to do with my ddrive failures but i went back to gasket maker after putting mine back together the third time...
