Blew the diamond drive for the 3rd time...

I have blewed the planetary gear in my modifyed 2007 M1000 3 times now.

Is it any here, or know someone with very good knowledge to this gearboxes???

I have even machined and put in a 5203 dobble raw bearing. Normaly the 6203 bearing have failed and cased loose parts that have destryed the 2 earlier planetary gears..

But know with the dobble row the problem have moved..
It looks like the smal needle bearings inside the gears in the planetary are going to hot so the copper plates get squished. And I gess the copper plates is there to help cooling of this parts..and when the copper plates get loose..it gets inbetween the gears so it destoys the gears.

I even change the oil every 500km like I did on the M7..

I`m pretty tired of the hole diamond drive now.

I cant understand how 300bhp+ turbo M1000 boxes can last??

on m 05 M7 the case was worn where the driveshaft bearing sits. This allowed the bearing to have excessive play. Fortunatly I discovered it last summer when I took the thing apart to clean it. New case and all is well, could be worth checking. I now have a well set up 07 M1000 with around 3500km and no issues with the diamond drive except that the rubber boot at the driveshaft is missing which allows water to enter the cases. Each time I change the fluid it is quite milky, so I change it a lot. will probably rebuild or replace this summer. Have you measured how much fluid comes out when you change?

no, but i gess its less than the 3,5dl thats going on..

How much if any difference is there between the diamond and the RMI drive?

We have 2000 miles on a RMI drive with next to zero maintenance and tons of abuse on a 900 1M mod. I personaly pounded the crap outa that sled last weekend, it never skips a beat.

Sounds to me like you have misalignment issues, can you post pictures of before and after the last destruction cycle?

Check the bearings in the brake caliper assembly. It is very common for them to fail causing the trackshaft to have play and eventually causing DD issues. I checked mine at the advise of a friend, and sure enough, the bearings were both shot.

If you haven't already, call the guys at black diamond. I went thru 3 cat diamond drives after I put the big bore on in one season, I called them up and got a complete drive from them and haven't had any major issues since, just maintenance stuff. They can tell you what to check also, to know if something else is causing it to fail. They made and designed the thing.

this is what had caused the dd case to wear that I mentioned in an above post

Jeff and the guys from Black Diamond are out here at the Jackson Hole hillclimbs this week and will be back to the office next week. If you call, leave a message or email them and they will get back to you next week.
