09 M8 Skid Plate?

What skid plate are you guys running? The cat M series skid plate I got in the pictures (AC item # 4639-564) doesn't look like it will work very well with reverse - due to the big ridges at the back of it, see the pic. But check out this one - can anyone comment on this skinz float plate? - http://www.skinzprotectivegear.com/snowmobileproduct/floatplates.html
Post up what you got, pictures would be great!

IMO the Skinz float plate is the best option as it has a ton of coverage. We still have some in stock on summer special.

Thanks,
Paul

Nobody runs a skid plate?

Wow, I thought I would have gotten more replys. Nobody runs skid plates on M8's? On the skidoo side EVERYBODY runs a skid plate, wonder why?

i know xp"s have a big hole under there that probably should be covered.i took my cat plate off when the dealer drilled through the airbox installing it.LOL.the ridges dont hurt reverse any.its up high by the front of the track.but the skins looks like it has more protection.

The cat plate works fine in reverse, but I wish i would have gotten the skinz plate, looks cooler, more protection, and i think it is a little bit thicker.

The Skinz Float Plate gives the most protection that I've seen from anyone. I've installed numerous Float Plates on the X-Fire and the really protect everything.

As it turns out I almost bought one last week from my cat dealer. He told me to wait for the "new" one coming out in the next month. It is suppose to cover from the track to the bumber and extend to cover the clutch and exhaust sides as well. This is suppose to help protect these area when carving, sidehilling, etc .

Time will tell ? This was the first I had heard about it. Apparently it was brought up at the dealers show

They did mention something I had not thought about. Apparently if you smack a A-arm you have to pull the skid plate to get the arms out ? Could explain why som folks dont bother.

I'm with you seems to be a good idea

I got a picture of the new skid plate from AC, but it is in a .pdf file that is too big for snowwest to accept, so I can't post it. But - the new M series skid plate is HUGE and costs $169.00 It pretty much covers then entire underside of the sled. I don't like the look of it myself, too big - seems like a bit of overkill.

i have your identical plate on my m1000. i've only seen the float plate on the xp's and they are AWFUL for collecting snow which is why i'd never put one on my sleds. my pop's xp packs TONS of snow in there and then it makes it super hard to steer because it packs the snow all around the front steering. it fits like **** on the xp as well so i didn't even consider it for my 09m1k

Skinz recognized the problem and re-cut the XP's to not hold as much snow.

I put the new cat skid plate on my m8 and it fit pretty well and isn't really noticeable but I have a black belly pan. Covers from DD side edge to exhaust side edge and looks like it will work well.
