Attn: Nytro MTX owners upgrading their track

I'm looking for some input on an idea that I came up with for my buddies MTX Nytro. After watching his Maverick fold over like a wet leaf and seeing him get spanked by an M8 out in Wyoming, something had to be done. He decided to go with the Powerclaw but wanted a 162". I told him I'd machine some rail extensions for him and made a few design improvements. I came up with a rail extension that:

1. Incorporates 8" billet wheels.

2. Converts it to a 2 wheel inside the rails set-up.

3. Runs full length Hyfax ( from a 162" Apex )

4. Has externally adjustable track tensioners.

5. Seamless mating with the stock rail.

Here are some pictures of the finished product.

Along the way, I decided to make the 8" wheels for him to the design he wanted and went one more step and machined a couple of 7" wheels for the drop bracket bogey wheels. Other designs could certainly be accomodated as well.

I want to pass along a special thanks to MotoPsych-o for the help that he gave me during the design of this mod.

I'm looking to see if anyone else may be interested in this kit. I run a small ( one man ) machining business and am looking to broaden my horizons. Any input or interest would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

scmurs

Everything looks awesome, other than I'd run more radius on the faces of your wheels. You're going to run into ice buildup / vibration issues.

That looks pretty sweet you should start designing rail extentions for all of the sleds, you could probably make some pretty good money. Selling billet wheels wouldnt be a bad idea either.

looks good, i might be inclined to suggest a stiffner tab on the back side at the lower portion of the rail just above the hyfax. you would put another bolt through the lower potion of the extension and the rail. this would keep the extension from twisting in a tail landing. tracks usa has these on his extensions.

love the use of the full length hyfax. and stellar job on the outside adjuster, nice touch.

i need to do something with my stock upper idlers. gotta finish the custom look to my sled. ski

Thanks for the input guys. I'm game for making rail extensions for the "other three". This need arose from the $h!tty track thay Yamaha put out on the MTX's from the get go. Love to make some more billet wheels, that really is a nice way of touching up a machine. I've got some good ideas, always looking for more.

Ski,

I appreciate your input and should have thanked you for the anti-stab and driver info that you provided me. The drivers on an 08 with about 750 miles on it looked like hamburger when we pulled the old track out today. Avids will be installed this summer. If there is anything I can do to help you out with a "custom look", pm me. Summer is typically my slower time.

Thanks, scmurs

Nice

Very nice work. Do you have a price? Idler wheels on drop brackets and extension. Are you using good bearings? Had an anti stab kit that looked great but had very poor bearings that failed after couple hundred miles.

if u can make a bunch of really nice billet wheels and provide GOOD customer service you would be a great alternative to MMP

That is an EXCEPTIONAL looking product!! Even after the time and effort I have spent on my "homebrew" stuff, I think I might have found what I originally invisioned! I will PM you for further info! WOO HOO!!!

Thanks for all the input!!

I want to pass along a thanks for all of the interest in my rail extension/big wheel kit. We put some miles on this past weekend and everything worked really well. My buddy who owns the sled compared the difference from the Maverick 153 to the Powerclaw 162 to how it felt when he put triple pipes on his Mountain Max. I'd have to agree. The sled feels like it picked up horsepower. Amazing difference.

There was enough interest that I machined five more of these kits. One is headed north of the border for a summer project. One is headed to Wyoming and will be ridden on next weekend, so that leaves three more left. If you are looking to put a 162" underneath your Nytro, pm me. Thanks to MotoPsych-o and tranquillicer. I appreciate the biz....

I can't wait to try it out. Good spring snow, and hillclimb conditions should be the perfect test for the product! Wheel stands all day long!!!! :D

4 Wheel Kit

Thanks for all of the compliments! I've had a couple people inquire about using the rail extensions and 4 rear wheels. So, I machined some new wheel spacers and re-used the stock axle bolt and here is the result:

Thanks for all of the interest guys.:beer;:)

Well, I received my kit today... and I have bad news.

I don't want to install it...

IT'S MUCH TOO BEAUTIFUL TO PUT ON A SLED!!!!!
:D

All kidding aside, what a wonderful kit!

The kit came packaged extremely well. each part was individually wrapped and protected from the next.

Upon unpacking, I found ALL necessary items for the install... INCLUDING LOCTITE.
Also, as an add bonus over the stock wheels - REPLACEABLE BEARINGS...

Anyway, I will report back soon on the installation phase. For now, here are some pics... excuse the fingerprints...

same kit work on Apex?

Would this kit convert an Apex to a 174" track from the stock 162"? If not how about the same thing but 9" rear wheels for an Apex to go to 174" how much? Thanks Looks sick!:D

Scmurs...I must have missed this thread when it originally started up!!

This is another great looking chunk of billet made into a masterpiece:D I purchased a set of rail extensions from a competitor a couple years ago to convert my SC10 III Doo SnoPro from a 121" to a 136". I was very unsatisfied with the fact that I had to pull out my hand held CNC die grinder:D to make the extensions fit in the stock adjuster slot...this set up looks like an awesome fit and would work great for guys upgrading their existing skid with a Racer's Edge or Timber Sled rear suspension and longer track.

The wheel look awesome too!!

Once again...nice work:beer;
