How big of a track can I fit on an Indy Trail?

I want to put a new track on my son's 86 Indy Trail....does anyone know what size lug track I can fit on it? Right now the lugs are almost nothing. Can I roll the chain case on it too?

You can do anything you want.

I would be more concerned about getting a good track under it first. 1.25" would be a great start, and maybe stretch it out to a 136 before I would go cutting and realigning the drive mechanism. A lot of the older sleds were built pretty low to the ground so their approach angles are insanely flat anyway.

Happy new year,
I just did something similar to my 94 xlt. I swaped out the stock drivers for 8 tooth drivers and installed a xtra 10 144, the track is a 2'' and everything works fine. Just a thought.

It probably looks something like this. Also a '94 XLT w/ Xtra 10. I only used a 136 x 1.75 w/ 8 tooth drivers. Drastic improvement but the liquid cooled motor has more snort than the fan cooled trail motor to help pull larger lugs.

SLP had a set of template's that made it quite simple to do your own drop and roll on that sled. Fairly easy to do, and a good project to do with your son. Way better option than smaller driver's,makes those old Poly's a blast to ride, IMO.

Cool, thanks for the input guys! Yes, Volcano the sled is extremely low to the ground and it has a really flat approach angle. Thanks Phazer I will look into that template, especially since SLP is right here in town.
