Power Claw Track Major Freying

Just wondering if anybody else is having a problem with the new power claw track on 2009 M1000's. The rivets that hold foot rests to the tunnel are quite sharp and stick out about 1cm on the inside of the tunnel. It is tearing my track up on the outside edges. Any suggestions or solutions or am I the only one.

Thanx in Advance:confused::confused::confused:

Its on both sides and the track is aligned perfectly. The gap between the rivets and the track is about a 1/4 inch. If any ice builds up on the inside of the tunnel I think it pushes the track into the rivets. I don't think they can be filed down very easily as the bulge in the rivet is actually what is holding it in place.

could u drill out that rivit and put a new one in the opposite way ? so the head is on the inside ?

If I wanted to drop the track and drill a whole bunch of them. Kind of hoping for an easier solution, but it would definitely work. I will take some pics of it tonight and post them. Thanx for your thoughts Mike.

Were you at Baker on Sunday?

nope i havent got my sled back together yet ! soon though !

I noticed this at the AC dealership on one of the test sleds, The edges were fraying badly, looked like it was 5 yrs old with many miles! I had a feeling this was going to show up sooner or later. Do you have 4 idlers out back, Or two? They should have kept the tunnel 17" wide! Can you bring the back of the skid down away from the rivets, Or up? Probabally would need new drop brackets or redrill new hole in existing with some slight rivet grinding.

Mike

I would try and identify which rivets are hitting the track and then reinstall some shorter ones, same direction, without removing the track and drive. Grinding them off will only cause another problem.

I know it would be a pia, but I would use the solid blind rivets like the poo's they would be almost fush on both sides and stronger. Just a pia to drill out the old and install the new. Sounds like that should be done under a warrenty type of thing?!?

Mine is good so far, i only got about 75 miles on it though. Last weekend i was out in the snowies climbing up a hill in the woods and there was a branch under the snow i didnt see, about 2" in diameter, i was open moving about 2 mph and the track sawed right through it. no damage that i could see.

I was at Product testers (Shain) house tonight and noticed the same thing was happening to his 09 M1000

i've noticed my track has been doing it too. My track wasn't prefectly aligned at first but im not to worried about it at this point. As long as it doesn't get any worse.

Well I will double check the alignment but if it was alignment it would only where one side right? Definitely looking pretty hairy though!! I only have about 120 miles on it. The tunnel should really be a bit wider. Thanx for your input guys.

re-rivet

My 2 - 07 M1000's with the PC track- no Issues Running the BDX tunnel conversion and thier style foot rest. I still run the plastic guides as I would rather have the track rub on the cutout then on a shortened cut down rivet.
I riveted from the inside so the head is flush- that is your issue on the 09's as to why it needs to be re-drilled and fastened from the inside.

Just drop your rear suspension bolts let it all hang and re-drill / maybe an hour tops to re-complete.

I noticed alot of threads hanging out of my track with less than 100 miles. I was concerned, but the belt blowing apart took my attention off. I love it over $10K and I have to spend cold nights in my garage trying to fix the problems that the designers and engineers ( that make probably 10 times what I do) created. Maybe they should share some of those big bucks with us. Or have a little pride and build the crap right the first time.

I've got just 80 miles on my M1000 and noticed the same problem. Between the bulkhead ripping out because they left that dogbone out between the lower A arms, and the ridiculous low to mid range bog and now the track fraying, I cant help but wonder why I bought this thing. Dont get me wrong, when its working it works well but this isnt what I signed on for. And as far as getting anything on waranty, good luck!

I heard about the dog bone being left out and put a piece of 1/8" thick by 1.5" aluminum flat strap where th dog bone is supposed to be. My wife has already gave me the green flag to sell this engineering disaster. I just don't know what to go too next. Maybe a turbo, at least then I'll have an excuse when things start to break.

Did they leave the dog bone out on the 08's as well or is this just new for 09?
First I have heard of it so I guess I need to check on my 08.

Thanks
