09 m1000 overheated

Today i started out on my second ride with my new stock 09 m1000, it only has 45km on it. i got up the fresh powder trail, about 4 kms and it started bogging looked down at the display and the temp feature was flashing. I shut it down, lifted the hood, and there was coolant blowing out of the overflow and she was boiling over. I let it cool added more coolant and tried it again. Went about 300 feet and same think. So I got towed out by my buddys new dragon, kinda of embarassing. I think it may be a stuck thermasate, but i will find out forsure, cause shes going back to the dealer. i just hope the engine is ok, not the best way to break in a new motor.

you may want to look into some venting, i know i did!!! if you ride it hard and deep you will have melting issues unless you increase the airflow under the hood. have guys with M8's and 1000's in our group and all have melting issues. we live in oregon and the snow here is so thick sometimes its like driving with the brake on:)

Well I found out today, it was a seized water pump shaft. I'm not sure what kind of damage happened to the motor, getting that hot, or if it scored the case. My dealer is shooting for a new engine, so keep your fingers crossed for me.

Good luck, and by the way there is a bunch of other problems with the 09s. Since your sled is at the dealer ask the dealer if A/C is going to do anything abou the rivets eating up the track, the bogging, clutches eatting up belts. The dog bone brace they removed to save an extra ounce so your a arms can now be ripped out from under the sled with just a small impact. The list goes on, Ya I have one too. Wish I didn't but to late now. I know how the owners of the 05,06 Polaris 900s feel.

Well new motor is on it's way, and the dealer gave me a demo to ride till it's back together, {Thanks Main Jet} It sure made mess, took out the crank and there was no oil getting to the engine either, cause the oil pump runs off this shaft aswell. If it wasn't for the mixed gas she would have poped the first ride. This wasn't the first one to do this, I guess there is one other sled in Canada. The problem started from the bushing clearences being to tight :eek:

What was the final result. The exact same thing is happening to my sled. Was it thermostat? Water pump? Was the engine damaged or could they just replace the shaft. I have 450 miles on mine and some mods but I doubt warranty would cover it. Please let me know what happened. I have scratchers and tons of venting, so it is not that.

Thanx for any suggestions.:confused::confused:

(P.S. Chances are, if you got it hot enough to puke coolant - it's toast)

Yah I read he got in warranty'd . What I wanted to really know what happened to the engine. The light must have been on for a while for him to run it dry or cook the motor.I run egt's and the light came on and i shut it down. Added a 1/2 cup of antifreez started it and it got hot after about 10 minutes. I have been told it is probably a head gasket and they do not replace a motor for a blown water shaft. I did miss the part about his oil pump. Not the same 4 me. I run 40:1 oilin m,y gas no oil pump. Hopeing it is the gasket.......

If it got that hot, the o-rings in the head are most likely cooked. When my buddy's went down, it was puking coolant out from under the head through those.

His light never came on...

I dont know if comparing to the Polaris 900 is fair...........That was a Epic cluster.........:mad:

As bad as I hate to admit it this is the nature of new sleds. Some are going to make others wont, why we have warranty !

I didn't run it long, soon as they get hot the motor cuts out. coolant was just boiling over. When the shaft seized it took out the brasss grear on the crank, so I think it is easier for them to send a new motor. I'm sure yours will be warrenty as well.
