09 steering stem, any issues?

I have an 09 M8 snopro 162 and I have only 100km on the sled and my adjustable steering post is bent, have not rolled the sled or had any crashes, just 2 days of riding and the stem is leaning bad. Just wondering if anyone else is having issues?

That sucks! Maybe it bent when you pulled on it hard to lay the sled over while it was extended? It should be made to take that kind of abuse though. The only issue I've had is that it froze up and I had to drip deicer into it.

boondok I asked because at one point today i went to pull my fat azz up and it flexed back more than I thought it should. I have had my steering gate loose for tuning so I will make sure it is good and tight.

I am not an overly large guy and this sled is not hard to pull over in the powder, its not even anything I noticed when I was riding, I noticed when I got it home on my shop floor. havent dug into it yet to see where its bent, can the post come loose and shift to the side maybe?

the M posts in general seem pretty tough but last year i missed the rythm on knarly whoop section and slammed hard against the bars and sure as chit put a big old bend in the post... it happens.

Mine hasn't adjusted in 3 weeks. I guess it might just be frozen but I don't waste my time defrosting my sleds during the week.

I believe mine is bent as well, I have apprx 25 mi on it. The sled hasn't been stuck or rolled. I have just been riding around the house enjoying all of the snow we have down low. I have an 07 and 09 M1000 and I noticed on the 09 ther is alot of flex on the steering shaft down low where it is resting on the bulk head. I checked my 07 with a 2" riser and it hardly flexes at all. I noticed the mount is different between the two, on the bulkhead. I believe I could bend the steering shaft to the point of failure just by reefing on it hard. AC will be warrantying a bunch of these I think. MY 09 is a sp. The telescoping part seems tough enough its the bottom part of the shaft that is too weak. Hopefully the aftermarket will take care of us on this. The telescoping idea is brilliant, the bottom part of the shaft needs to be made sturdier however. I have been riding the sled conservatively as I am just breaking it in.

There is a nut on the back side of the bulkhead that tightens the pin that the bottom of the steering post rides on. I tightened the nut which straightened the pin and aligned the steering post back up. It is a nyloc nut, I'm not sure how it could come loose but it did. The bars are tight now. Check the nut if you have excessive play. Easy fix, just didn't know about it.

I have a friend that put an 09 steering post on his 05 m7 for the telescoping and we installed it and noticed that the bars were not strait and if you look at the 09 post it is factory bent to lean back and it is also bent side to side and the 05 post was strait so I dont know it your bent more than the factory but it took a bfh to straiten out the side to side bend so the bars were strait when it was installed on an 05

Steering Post

I have been ridin my 09 M8 Snopro pretty good and Now my steering Post leans to the left side a little bit after ridin Yesterday, Have to get in the shop and look at it...

my 08 stem came loose at the bottom nut.by the time i noticed it it had cracked the bulkhead and the tunnel.cat warrented the hole thing.now its part of my preride check.

I called my dealer to inquire on the adjustable post and they said Cat has them on back order until Jan. 31st. Just curious if they are making design changes or people are just ordering a lot of these stems.

Uh oh maybe this nut will explain why my 08 has play up and down with 300 miles. Do you get to the nut under the hood behind the coils or under the sled?

I bent & twisted mine yesterday. And that was just from hitting a good dip that was a little deeper and sharper back up the other side. I dont know if cat will warenty it because i bought it and installed on my 06 m7. Mine to leaned to the left so i relocated it where it bolts to the tunnel. Anyway i pulled it back out today and it has a weak spot right where its weled together. The weld is broke.

sticking stem adjuster

My 09 sp has a sticking stem adjuster, first time i blamed it on freezing, but the past several times it was not due to freezing. Sled has been in heated shop now for several days, stem would not adjust, sprayed WD40 up into locking mechanism and it finally came loose. Lots of gray aluminum dirty liquid came out with the WD40. I will have to watch and see if the lock continues to hang up, Lock just doesnt release when you pull up the adjuster lock.
any other ideas on the fix please post.

Loose post....

After about 250miles on the 09 m8 sno pro I really don't like the amount of slop in the plastic bushings that hold the post in place. Forward, back, side to side...super loose feeling. Anyone else experiancing this?
When I removed the little plate that covers the post and moved it...there looked to be about an 1/8 of an inch slop all over the place...feels really cheep. How is everyone elses feeling??

Later.
