07 Diamond Drive

Had the DD go out on my '07 M1000 last year. Fixed under Warranty. Just wondering if anyone knows if they updated them to '08 internals. Any problems with the '08 DD? Anyone have some miles on their fixed '07 diamond drive?

Thanks!

What happened when It went out? Strip the gears type thing??? Just wondering as I just serviced my M8 and didn't like what I seen on the magnetic drain plug. Bought my used so don't know if there is a warranty.

Thanks for any info

the problem with the stock drives, is that one of the internal gears is spot welded onto the shaft....some work others, not so good....the fix is to buy from bd the one piece shaft (no welds to break)....costs about $170...peace of mind...priceless

The 2008 model is different, but no better. They relocated the arm location and sealed it differently. We see most of the diamond drive failures from low oil or from moisture. If you see ANY brass debris on your drainplug, your drive is going out. Keep the oil fresh and make sure you have one of the update gasket kits in there (available at any Arctic Cat dealer) and you will be fine. I would check the oil color and level every other ride.

Mine is apart right now...

There was plenty of fluid in it, but lots of metal on the drain plug. The gears look fine though. What are the symptoms to look for *if* it's going out? I AM having problems with it shifting between forward & reverse...

I'm planning to gear it down while I have it apart. Is 57/63 a good ratio? or should I go even lower?

Thanks!

-Jeff

There are 4 major reasons that the drive unit fails. 1) the transfer gear is a pressed on gear then welded on causing undue stress risers and weaking of the hard surface of the gear teeth. 2) the 07 reverse shift fork was a welded fabricated fork and again there were too many variables that caused failure because of either twisting of the forks during hard engagement or breakage of the weld. 3) The leakage of fluid due to the bolt distance being too far between the lower right 2 bolts and the case flexing in that area causing the sealant to separate and then lose of fluid and then internal gear failure. 4) Improper engagement of reverse or forward due to electrical current issues ( even with the use of the current control module ) especially when cold conditions exisit. There have been several updates to the 08 gear box, including the gasket to eliminate leakage and a new forged fork.
We have addressed all 4 issues with our Diamond Lite Drive. We use our exclusive 1 piece forged gears ( NO WELDED Gears). A dip stick that you can actually check your fluid level and condition of oil everytime you use your sled without taking a bolt out and wondering what your level is. A new exclusive case that is a direct replacement and no electrical draws. For all 07 and 08 sleds there is a genuine 11 lbs weight loss also. For the 09 sled there is a genuine 4 lbs weight loss besides being much more durable ( especially for the mod motors)

Sorry for the lenghty response but we feel the Arctic Cat rider needs to know the real reasons for the failures and how to correct them. You can call us about any of your concerns.

Thanks, Ray

thanks for the info Ray - Does your unit eliminate the reverse option?

That's correct, it does eliminate reverse on the 07 and 08 models, but at least you'll always go forward. We do have the one piece forged gears for the reverse unit so at least you can eliminate that failure if you need reverse. We also have 16 different ratio's for the reverse and forward only gearbox's to make your work in the condition you like to ride. Thanks for your support.

I must mention that I have ordered part from BDX a few times and they have got them to me in record time, and that was shipped to Canada also.Thank to Ray and the guys there, great service, quality and response!!!
Do the gear sets from the reverse box(oem) fit in the lite reverseless BD box??

The gears from the reverse ( 07 and 08 ) will not fit in the Diamond Lite. The input, transfer and planetary from the 09 will fit the Diamond Lite drive but the ring gear will not. We do have a kit available now for the 09 sleds that is $200.00 less to convert to the Diamond Lite drive and is a 4 lb weight reduction.

Great info Ray

Thanks for all the great info Ray! I'll probably be calling for a set of gears in the next day or 2.

As for gearing it down, is there any consensus on what works best on these M1000's? I know there are a TON of variables and I've heard many have gone to the M8- 57/63 ratio. Mine is a 159 with a SLP pipe, cold air intake, BD box & RK-Tek head. Do you agree with the 57/63, go lower, OR??

Also, does the '08 gasket work for the '07 DD. I'm not quite ready to purchase a complete new unit and give up my reverse. (I'll probably get an '09 or '10 instead)

Thanks again Ray.

Just found out my DD is out, It looks like I was lucky to make it back to the truck last march, I was fixing the oil leak, split the case and found chunks of gears and bearings. The first year I bought the sled, (new) the motor had to be replaced after 300 miles, and now the DD, I can hardly wait to see what I am in for this season!!!!!!!

DD flush questions.

What is the AC part number for the updated gasket kit? I just left the dealer and they weren't to sure what I was even talking about.

The other thing they sold me the flush fluid AC 4639-333 and two 3oz bottles of AC4639-361 ACT gearcase fluid. Does that sound right? The gearcase fluid number doesn't match the number in the 07 service manual?

What is included in the AC 2602-267 oil change kit?

Last question: What is the normal procedure with this flush stuff? I am guessing, drain old oil. Fill with flush, run on track stand for a bit, drain flush fluid and fill with 6oz of ACT gearcase oil. Right?

I plan to split the case and look around anyway so I might do the flush first then pull the case, open it up inspect and put it all back together.

Thanks for any help

Thunder
