SPG (Skinz Protective Gear) has released a less expensive version of their ARC suspension system featuring a purpose built 2 position control from Raptor.

From SPG:

Skinz is now offering a new 2 position ARC system that will retail for $849.95.

This new offering will help make it possible for many of you to experience ARC this next season.

It is a cable system using a custom made 2 position RAPTOR shock. You will still be able to couple or uncouple your machine dynamically on your handle bars.

For those of you still wanting our 3 position cable or electronic systems, they are available as options.

These new 2 position units will be available around the end of October.

How would you like it to be adjustable??

This is either open (stock suspension design)... or coupled.

.

Interested to know if you could adjust the level of coupling... similar to the idea of timbersled or kmod doing coupling blocks with multiple settings. Do you have any input through the shock or is it a pre-set level of coupling or stock? In other words, is it skinz couple or nothing or do I have any control over the raptor shock pressures?

With this 2 position ARC system.. the rate of coupling is controlled by the valving package in the shock... and a little bit of the Pressure behind the IFP.

This is basically coupled or uncoupled (stock) design and should give great on-the-fly traction control in many situations.

If you need more "dimensionality" in the system... You would go with the ARC featuring the CTD float shocks with adjustable spring rate and on the fly valving control of three positions...

Good info on those systems here...

NOTE...This page in the link does not yet have info on the Raptor Equipped 2-postion system.

Talked to Jake about it. They sold quit a few. They just wanted to have a more affordable option. Plus if I remember right Burandt was using all three positions on his and Adams was only using two.

I don't think most guys can feel the difference between the two couple settings. Plus how many of us have the rider ability to say I need a little coupling here and more coupling there. Maybe I am wrong.

I know, myself for one couldn't look at a line and say, do I need it in coupling position 1or2. That being said, if I am putting on ARC, I probably have a turbo. If that's the case, what's the extra money for the 3 position.

the problem is its $1k for basically two metal brackets and a mountain bike shock and cable. Their profit margin is crazy high for such a simple system. The fox fully Adjustable with rebound and compression adjustment with remote lever is less than $200...

$90 more can get you the three position shipped if you know how to shop right :) through September

My take on the 3 position is I'll make my rear suspension a wheelie machine now, click to half coupled to keep that down some and full coupled for when things get serious, whether or not that'll work like that time will tell figured id need something this year at 12#s though

Can you enlighten those of us that don't know how to shop right? LOL. That seems like an awesome price on the 3 position ARC.

I love this stuff, have ever since I understood what coupling will do on a climbing machine. Try out a long M-10 set up right, and get imediate understanding!

What I am waiting for tho, is a modern version of Polaris SCS to show up. Here in scandinavia we pull quite a bit with our workhorses and mostly make our track when we do, so ski pressure is in high demand.

Look at this:Polaris SCS.jpg

What ARC and other coupling products do, is make a physical connection or influence from rear to front arm, making the front follow the compression of the rear. A coupling function, be it solid or a bit dynamic.

I wish someone could get that light-bulb turned on in their head and see a way to use the rear arms scissors rearward movement to pull down the front arm. Then this can be made to couple on/off with some kind of remote influence (switch).

No shock needed, just some hardware.

It's certainly possible with a clever bell-crank setup.
