Quick fit instructions (pro rmk skis)

Not realy looking for to much, just bringing current for me. More research, I would like to have a side by side pic of the Mohawk and the Gripper. Top and bottom, if anyone has one.
 
Ok, I just fit up a set if grippers to my 2013 M800 after doing some home work here is what I found for 2012-2015

1. Grind saddles as mentioned for flat surface keeping centers of saddles untouched for height
2. Leave 1/4" (4-corners) of Polaris saddle plastic ribs in place for tight fitment with cat rubber
3. Cut second rows in of rubber stubs on the bottom sides of bumpers, the rows you take away line up perfectly with the saddle plastic that was taken away for a flat fitment.
4. Newer cat bumpers fit perfectly width wise
5. Use only all Polaris hardware except keep rubber spacer that comes stock on new cat sleds.
6. Make sure you have Polaris ski bushings (not aluminum spacers), Polaris washers, bolts and nuts
7. Once above is done these ski's fit with the same tolerance as the stock ski, like they were made as a replacement

I forgot to add I went with Woody's skages with 4" carbides. Was told by multiple people that this was the match. I also noticed a lot of questions about cost. Here is what I did on a budget.

Used bare white ski's with loops $125
Skages $48
New Hardware $47

Total cost for this set up, $220 after taxes. Hope this helps.
 
I just cut the second row nubs and added a thin washer next to the rubber spacer. Used Polaris bolt and rest from the cat. Did Nothing else.
 
Getting ready to do this. I have skis with no skags. Guys just using stock skags or going with something else. I've never bought a pair of skags before haha. Strictly back country mountain riding
 
Fastenal sells grade 10.9 10mm X 155mm bolts for $8.50 a pair. Stronger and cheaper than the Polaris spindle bolts. Johnmaster sells skags without carbides. On my 15 I didn't even need to cut the gripper ski saddles to get them to fit.

You saying on the 15 the grippers bolt right up? Using cat rubbers and poo bolt and spacers.
 
You don't have to cut out the ridges on the gripper skis. If you have the 2012 rubber bumper no need to shave the nubs. On the 2013/14/15 bumpers, which are wider, I had to remove one ridge on the rubber stoppers and they installed nice and snug. (Use a grinding stone on a dremel to remove the nubs)

I bought new for $300CDN + Polaris nuts/bolt/washers. Woody's 3" Carbide/skag (pn: 2875723) for $50 at Polaris. The stock Polaris carbides are over a $100.

I rode the first day without the carbides. No bite whatsoever on the trail - not worth it.

You saying on the 15 the grippers bolt right up? Using cat rubbers and poo bolt and spacers.


They bolt right up with the stock newer spindles. My 14 has bdx spindles and bottom of them have a flatter shape, so required a bit more trimming on the saddles to fit.
 
Without going to a dealer to check it out, do the grippers have additional spacers because of the increased width or is there just more plastic on the ski? Aka since it takes a longer bolt, what takes up that extra space?
 
Just a heads up for people doing this.YES, its easy to fit the grippers although if you ride in somewhat setup snow where theres stress on the skis/rubbers they will not last. Not enough area in the ski to hold the load which results in a pinched rubber...
Had to make an emergency repair with a set of C&A rubbers at the cabin.
The rubbers need more support in the ski. Ridges ground down and either fill the cavity or place a piece of sheet metall between rubber and ski for support.

Don't use stock polaris rubbers. when u have the tip of the ski next ur handle bars when carving in the powder and the sled stops so fast u go flying over the bars, u will understand.
U would not believe the braking ability one ski @ 90° provides!
