Real X3 reviews

TRS If you decide to cut the tracks paddles to 2.75" How would you get that done? If you decided to do that right away would you need to change drivers? Seems like a nice paddle length IMO.
2015 RMK PRO 155"

I built a jig to cut down the 2.5" by .200". I will build one for the 3". The lugs are easy to cut, across the jig, with a fillet knife. Takes about 45min to do a track.
I will use Robbie's 7 tooth drivers, then decide if I want to go extended chain case and 8's.

If you end up cutting yours to 2.75, we definitely need a wright up and review!!!

I wonder if by cutting it down, would it get to stiff???? Definitely an interesting idea!

I have found mine to vibrate and chatter when braking... It seems to me the extrovert tooth is a little too long and starts to pick up the back of the window when braking. I took a file and filed off the area on the top of the tooth with the black marks. That made it a lot better. I think I'm gonna pull the drive shaft out in the fall and take the driver to my local machine shop and have them mill 1/32" off the top of the extrovert. That should solve it once and for all.

You'll find if you run your track a little tighter, that won't happen.

What Robbie said.

Any less than factory tension and you are loosing performance. Even more prevalent on a 3" tall paddle.

Toothed drivers help to keep it from ratcheting... but DO NOT run it any looser than stock.

Have you ever tried a carpet knife?
Very thin, very hard, very sharp blades.

I'll add my review. 2013 stock sled with 162". I didn't change the skid nor the set up. did x3 with center punch. removed 2 grams of clutch weight at 10,000 (not perfect but good enough I never changed). Doesn't wheelie, maybe trench a slight more than stock, but is awesome for trees. Friend on a turbo dragon is buying a pro and putting a 3" track on it (but wants to turbo the next year).

I really enjoyed, I have a stock 155, and I have loved the 163 when stock and even more with the 3". When I ride with my son (twelve) and he is getting stuck, I put him on the 3" track and away we go! trails are less fun and it runs hotter on hard pack. My two riding buddies are keeping their pro's stock. not worth the $ to them.

I went the PC2.6 VS 3" because i still wish to ride in minimal amount of snow here in the flatlands.

A friend of mine has an etec 174x3 and he cannot ride it here unless we have 6-8" of fresh, it will overheat otherwise. He has a larger cooler and aftermarket remote t-stat but it just doesn't cut it.

I think the 2.6PC can be prone to a tad more trenching due to its aggressiveness but i felt the 2.25PC was better than the factory pro track (2.4?) so the 2.6 should be even better yet. The 3" is an extreme and only usable in moderate+ snow conditions.

I do not have any run time on the 2.6 as my motor seized 3km up the trail on my test run. This season is over for me so next year will tell the tail. I did get to run a cat for 2 days with the 2.6 and it did well.

It all depends on how, where, what conditions you ride in that will determine what lug size you want/can tolerate.

TRS How would you cut the paddles to 2.75". that sounds like a good fall back idea for sure. I can't imagine a sharp box cutter trying to make a nice cut without a lot of mistakes.

Metal straight edge for a guide and sharpen the back of a sawzall blade.
I'm not TRS but that's how I would do it. lol

I know some guys use a straight edge and some sort of strong sharp blade. When I cut my 5.1 down I used a cut all Case IH scissors type tool that I bought from Runnings for $7 (not sure if you guys have runnings out west, probably not, its a farm supply store) it worked pretty well, I spread it out over 2 nights because my forearms got sore after so many cuts but it probably took about an hour total, would have been nice to have 2 of the tools, it was getting pretty dull towards the end. Guys use a similar tool that craftsman makes.

I make a jig that the paddles stick through and zip them off with a fillet knife. They cut very easily.

I'll post up a picture of the 2.5" jig this weekend. I have it loaned out at the moment.

TRS,
It looks like your into only clipping the outter lugs. The track looks like a 163 CE... Did you trim the one set of odd ball lugs? or leave them? You know where the pattern skips a beat.

Yes it is a 163, and I only clipped the outside lugs on this track. The 162 X3 hasn't arrived. I did trim the odd ball lugs.

I've had the 163 Non Center ported track with Avid 7T drivers and Roosterbuilt clutching for most of the year on my stock 2014. I only did a few road rides with the stock track and this is my first PRO.

I have really loved how the track just hooks up and GRABS! It's gotten me out of several tight spots when I thought for sure I'd be stuck...

The guys at Roosterbuilt changed the clutching, gearing it down slightly.

I put on 1500 miles so far this season, maybe 1400 with the X3. Towards the end of the year around 1200 miles or so, I noticed some cracks on the front side of a lot of the paddles. I sent a pic of the cracks in to Oregon Trail Sports where I bought it from, they forwarded it to Camoplast and they sent me a new track, no further questions asked. Great service, but I hope the new one lasts longer, don't want to be swapping my track out part way through the year...
