Ok, boyz & gurlies,

This is a glass 1/2 FULL thread.
Let's fill it with ideas. (not rants)

What features are actually useful?
Let's describe the things that made the original (pre-Christopher) forum work and things that could have refined it to make it more useful.

Good list, I am not interested in Social networks, video conferencing, text alerts, webinars, sledtube videos, rainbows under my username, max threads, newbies that come in already seeing, knowing and having done everything there is to do with a snowmobile.

I would like a better swapmeet, with more functionality, i.e. I don't see a problem with someone having to pay a nominal fee to sell their chit, and having a rating system so fawkers don't burn fellow sledders.
 
So, a simple, well organized user interface?

Quick access to the category of your choice?
All major categories should be clickable from the "above the fold" portion of the main page?

User Icons, but not all of the extra user-specific stuff?

???

I think that the idea of a a favorites for each person so you can be alerted to threads that interest you is a good idea, i don't need text alerts of any kind and can't see any point in that... a snow forum isn't that life threatening if rockdog comes on here and gets to half a million posts i don't need my phone ringing about it.

I think the webinars idea could be useful if people actually use it right and come on here posting how-to's on things people are asking about, it could be easier to watch someone do it then spend two pages explaining what the connection/bolt/lightbulb/whatever looks like.

I think it would much more cost effective to ask people to upload their videos to a 3rd party (youtube, putfile, etc) and not chew up Snowest's bandwidth and storage with video hosting. I do like the idea of how to videos as a whole though.
 
It COULD be but i've got other mobile apps on my smart phone and if you're out in the garage and want to know something its not the kind of thing that i think could work very well. if it did that would be great. As far as having a mobile edition for other purposes that could be really cool. Thats a great idea

Right! Agreed, wouldn't really need to be hosted here but i think their videos idea would be a good idea, not just to this site but if they're hosted elsewhere they could benefit everyone.
 
Getting a stripped down version would be huge. Being able to get info on the way out west while on the road will not only help pass the time but would help to keep us informed on changing conditions. One thing on the video side would be to have good vids on "how to's" and what you did to your sled or just good tech stuff. I for one am someone that needs the ideas because I don't have the experience that many of the others do. It would be awesome to see some kind of a video book if you will on a wide range of topics. Just take each step and make it a chapter.

But I really like that mobile idea
 
I love the private topics! That is where I spend most of my time talking to buddies. Would want to keep that.
Would be cool to have a place for updated snow conditions but also each state is a good place for that already.
I see no need for the new stuff Christopher is talking about adding. Seems to be a waste to me but maybe people will use it when they add it :confused:
 
I like the "my forum" option allowing you to pick different categories and have them all in one page so keep that and keep the option to turn features on and off, that also works well. Simple is much better over all though cause its important to be able to check the site quick for anything useful and then be off to other things.

Doo I think that the original idea in your first post is spot on. I dont need any of the FLUFF that is on here now. I loved the old format and miss it dearly. I really hope the site doesnt die. I live on this site.
 
The only thing I see missing would be a "Trash Bin/Fouled Plug" section. Just to keep the BSing out of the useful sections.
