Keep a look out / stolen


With all of the snowmobile and trailer thefts these days; I would like to see a category dedicated to aiding in the recovery of the stolen Items.

These often get posted in general snowmobiling, and get burried. I would like to see a proactive approach to catching snowmobile and trailer thiefs.

It sounds like a decent idea, but here's a question....

What is going to draw other people into the category so that the posts get viewed?

Would the posts perhaps work better if stickied for a week or 2?

Would it promote people to steal just to see if their deed will make it into the section ?

I would think that less people would look there I kind of like seeing it in general section.

Just another place for people to go.

This request was brought up in the Moderators forum.

And in general I think it's a great idea.
I have NO DOUBT but that people who have have their equipment/sleds stolen WOULD POST in this forum

What I am worried about is that no one else would read it?

What will draw people to come into the forum to read the LOST/STOLEN reports?

In my mind, the best setup would be like a classifieds section.

you could scan the thumbs and descriptions briefly, but click on it to get more info, and larger pics.

This would be to the point, and not get clutterd' with the sympathetic posts of others.

It would be a useful tool, to aid in the recovery of stolen equipment.

Here's a question.

Can you create a form which prompts for information and pics of the stolen property?

and when you submit it, it posts it to a (non open forum area) which is dedicated to the presentation of stolen goods, for the purpose of recovery; and at the same time posts it in the general area for all to see, comment on, and be redirected into the stolen items section.

Then the ideal situation would be a recovered link, which moves it in to a recovered list, and also labels the thread in general as recovered.

It is above my capabilities, but I know that it can be done...

I would think that more people would see a post in general and I have no problem with guys posting stolen sled threads in it.

I'm pretty sure that if you have something stolen you want the most exposure and General here gives you that.

We already have TOO MANY categories. We don't need another!
