Clutch alignment???

How do you check alignment on the clutches? I have an 07 M1000. Clutches are getting very hot and I'm not getting much life out of my belts. There are four shims behind the secondary, I don't know how many are supposed to be there. Any and all help is appreciated!!!

I purchased the tool from Bikeman performance and we aligned the clutches on three M1000's and M1200 which were only getting an average of 120 miles per belt. The tool sits against the outside (stationary sheive) and the lays between the primary clutch. The tool needs to be no more than .060 from the inner sheive but I would get as close to .000 as you can. After we did this we all have over 350 miles on the belts we are curently running. The bad part is that all the sleds had just had the clutches aligned by our dealer.

My 07 has 2 shims.

Meister- I might be "high", but it sounds like the adjustment you made is Clutch Offset- I always thought that alignment was about the 2 clutches being parallel to each other when under load.

Make sense?

Just like your link says, you must set the off-set before you can adjust the parallism. You can do both with the bar. Those 1000's would really benifit from a extra torque arm to hold that engine in place.

Diggerdown sez: "Those 1000's would really benifit from a extra torque arm to hold that engine in place."

I installed both push & pull torque arm on my RMK's... I'm surprised that a TON of M1000 owners are NOT doing this. I was planning to address this issue after straightening out some other problems with mine.

Is there a "best" offset/alignment bar to purchase?

Does anyone make a tourque arm for the M1000? Or does anyone have a home made one that works? I've wanted to put one one but I never knew where to get one.

I got my push & pull torque arms from SLP for my RMK...

I quick look at their site reveals you can purchase a torque arm for CATs, but only for the 800 & 900's.... $80.00 I'll have to call 'em to see where they're at for M1000's

I found them to REALLY help extend belt life on my RMKs

Just got off the phone with SLP and they're NOT planning on a torque arm for the M1000 because the motor is mounted REALLY GOOD according to the tech. He said it would be a waste of money! Talk about honesty! I've bought a TON of stuff from them and they're always GREAT! Just keep the offset, alignment & deflection set correct & you should be good-to-go! Gearing down wouldn't hurt though... IMHO

The Torque arms on the site are for ZR / MC / 1M chassis didn't see anything for the M chassis, I did a search Cutler, D&D, Bikeman, RK Tek, SLP and couldn't come up with any arms for the M chassis. Speedwerx has torque arms but the description doesn't tell you what they fit. May be an option, I ordered a catalog so hopefully more info in there.

if you really want to just put another stock motor mount on the front clutch side, that is the same thing you do when installing a twisted turbo. hope this helps.

P.S. it's the one on the inside of the frame there are already tapped holes there ready to go.

here is the part you need. part #17 comes at a kit 0708-524 $48.95 instead of going on the mag side just put it on the pto side.

I adjusted the offset this morning, it was about .0040 off. Washed both clutches and the belt with hot soapy water and broke the belt in easy for about fifteen miles. Then I put around 40 hard miles on and the belt looks almost new. Clutches got warm but never too hot to touch.

I also put the second front motor mount on my MT1000,you have to do a little grinding on the mount to make it fit by the oil pump, but it's not to bad.I've looked around for some sort of torsional snubber or arm,but I haven't found anything, but the second motor mount should help.I was running RK Tec's so called M1000T secondary set up,but I didn't work for me,it wouldn't back shift quick enough and it was throughing the belt right out of the secondary. This was on the trail, didn't work to bad in the deep stuff, but killed two or three belts before I got a handle on this issue-needs steeper helix.
