3" Track for the Pro

My '12 Pro has a 162 X3, 7T Avid drivers and shortened rails with anti-stab kit. I couldn't be happier with the performance. Relatively easy mod with huge gains.

I think the 600 would be quite shy of power and have trouble spinning her. You would need to gear low. The 600 is really not a mountain performer.3 inch is a deep powder track, the 600 is not a deep powder sled even with a stock track.

I'm assuming Shane is putting it on a turboed 600? And FYI there might be a Evo 300hp PC for sale in the classifieds because of what I did to him on the girlfriends Pro 600

We have several little 600,s here, Great on set sno, They are very shy grunt when snows deep, If he has a T 600 @ 180hp I dont know why he would even question if the track will work Hmm,

Is clutching a must or just highly recommended?

Clutching changes must be made to accommodate the higher load put on the motor.

A little more primary spring on the top end and a little more secondary spring on the top end.

Guy from Denver had a 600 RMK 156 extended chaincase with stage 4 SLP kit at Revy last year. I couldn't believe what it would do. I've had big bores, turbo's etc. Nothing I have ever ridden (other than some "other" memories when I was younger) was so much "FUN" as that sled. He could beat up on any stock 800 that was there. The turbo'd 2 strokes would catch him only after about 100+ yards. Out of the hole that thing was gone!!
So I built one similar (no stage 4, only stage 3) just need time out of office to see if it is anywhere close.

Slow track speed, paddles hitting in tunnel, air & snow concussion, paddle delamination. We experienced around 70% failures with this combo. No failures with 8's and 3" Cost me a lot of $$$$$ in warranties.

I'm just a 'keyboard cowboy expert' here, but I'm a little confused by this post. So, you have no issue with 7T drivers, 3" track, and an extended case; but you are seeing 70% failures with 7T drivers and 3" track with no extended case?

Would you mind clarifying?

By failures, you mean delamination? Are you saying that 70% of X3 tracks will delaminate if you run them on 7T drivers? Why is that, when the 7T Avids are nearly the same diameter as the rear bogeys?

You may want to clarify this statement. It reads that you have had 70% failure rate with the 3" on 7 tooth drivers.

Very interesting. I'm runnin a 3" with 7T drivers in my '12 Pro. Stock chaincase with mod for track clearance. No paddle delamination. No black marks anywhere in the tunnel indicating track contact. I keep my track adjusted to oem specs.Track speed (corrected for driver size) is 36-37 mph. Second season with this setup. Works very well and NO issues.

Proper track tension is key with the 3" and the 7tooth... Tight like factory specs you read in your manual...

I had this very same argument with trackscanada back in december. I am running the 3" 156 X3 with ZERO issues on 7 tooth drivers. There is very little, if any, difference in snow evacuation/track clearance between stock drivers/stock track and 7 tooth drivers/3" track.

I could care less if my paddles go right to the outside edge of the track (like the cut down versions) as they are staggered anyways. I could understand the logic behind all of this (track clearance/snow evac room/lug width) if the lugs bridged across the whole track. IMO the stagger in lugs etc is more responsible for snow evac than track clearance in the tunnel. It looks to me like the lug design also funnels the snow towards the center of the track, which then allows for easy snow evacuation through the center lug spacing.

But, then again, I'm just a "keyboard cowboy expert"!! This isn't the rocket science that some people make it out to be!!

As MH said...track tension is key on these machines....3" tracks or not. Many people have tested different track tensions - but a tight track still delivers better performance.

P.S. - from what Curtis told me....he won't even sell the X3 track, so I'm not sure where all the expertise comes from...

I have 1800+ miles on my 2013 with the 3" 162 and 7 tooth drivers. No problems with my track either. Its the best mod you can do to a Pro for deep snow riding.
