I'm looking into getting either a mcx or a mpi 180 turbo kit for my nytro. I'm leaning towards a mpi just because of the tunnel dump exhaust and price. Anyone seen both in action? Ps I ride in all types of elevations and I'm looking for a minimal tuning kit.

Thanks

mpi turbo kit is not even released. mcx is tried true and proven hands down, besides you can buy a tunnel dump exhaust. but if your worried about price remember that you get what you pay for. I'm pretty sure that everyone else here will say mcx 180 is the ONLY way to go out of the 2 choices.

MPI or MCX 180 Turbo?

I have a MPI Turbo kit on my 2008 Nytro MTX and so far it is gas and go. I have put on 250 miles and the only problem has been an exploded belt. The kit is a very simple install and quality is top notch. I am installing a high elevation tee switch now and will be testing it this weekend. Darren from E&S Cycle gives very good product support and is quick to answer any question I may have.My vote is for MPI.

Yes the Mpi kit is available both in Canada and the US, It has been since Dec 2010.
Mpi has built this 180 hp turbo kit to provide a alternative for the Nytro consumer. What I like about the MPI turbo kit is that includes a under tunnel exhaust with a muffler and no welding required, Hard pipe for charge tubes, A billet intake manifold sealing with o-rings and a huge billet blow off valve, Installation is so easy that it does not even require you to even remove the bottom panels because the oil is taken from and returned to the head, The fit, finish, performance and ease of installation IMO is second to none. Also VERY good instructions with pictures every step of the way. There are alot of pictures and feedback on this kit at: http://www.snowandmud.com/forum/f447/new-yamaha-180-hp-turbocharger-kit-40530.html -Darren

rumor has it that the MPI turbo kit is the one that yamaha will be using for the $1500 upgrade on the 2012 nytro next year. And it will have the factory warranty. that says a lot that this kit will be very reliable if yamaha is willing to stand behind it with a warranty.

Thanks - I was hoping to confirm that at the snow Tuesday in Denver. Wanted to go down there and kick the tracks on the new Cat and the Nytro.

Out the door price on a 2012 MTX with a Turbo installed? Probably ~$15k

There are a bunch of boosted Nytros in the swap meet for 9-10k - decisions, decisions.....

Mpi 180 turbo kit

You would think they would at least MENTION it somewhere on their website?

But I can't find anything at all about it there??

http://www.mountainperformance.com/

The reason you can not find it on their website is because you are unable to purchase this kit from Mpi. However- the installation instructions and specifications are on there support page. http://www.mountainperformance.com/Files/Download/mtn-1000_nytro_turbo_small.pdf
I suspect that Yamaha USA will be offering this kit for 2012.
Currently this kit is exclusively available and well as next year thru E&S Motorcycles in Canada-Darren
