Alright so I have an 03' Mountain cat 900 with 144" track. I have been reading that the 03.5 nodel was alittle better ie....drop and roll case, lighter, 2 part tunnel, etc etc. Well it seems my sled has a couple traits of both 03 and the 03.5 model. for instance my tunnel appears to have a definate place where it can be seperated about half way back, also I have the "dimples" on the running boards and not the slits. My Cooler lines underneath the tunnel run down the sides of the tunnel and not down the middle like I understand the 03' "early" modles had. Also someone has written "03 LOW" in my engine bay. So whats the best way to know for sure what I have???.

alright

Alright so I just went out to look at my sled more closely. It DOES NOT have a notched track, the coolant lines run on the edges of the tunnel and not the center. Also I looked underneath the belly pan to look at the chain case shield and its plastic not aluminum. All of these things I've read on here are the late model changes CAT made. BUT It does have the dimples on the running boards which was a early model trait. I'm pretty sure I have the latter model 03 and not the early, you guys agree?

2003 Models were the 144 and the 151" Black and Green or Black and Red. They made a limited late season 2003, which is often referred to as the 2003 and a half. It was a 159" length and was black with Orange highlights. If yours is black and green it is a 2003.

Also the vin#s on Cats are really easy 4UF03 OR 4UF04 on the start of the VIN designates 2003 or 2004 repectively.

I think he's referring to the confusion between the early build '03s and the production '03 1Ms.

It does sound like you have a full production 1M, although the dimples on the running boards are a little odd. Can you take a pic and let us see?

sounds like it could have started as a ZR? 03 low could mean low altitude, boxes were different between the ZRs and the mountain sleds. and that would also be another reason the tunnel splits.

Idacat, yes!

They built an early release 2003 that we got in 2002. It had the coolers in the center and the ZR style chaincase that the 2001 and 2002 MCat 600 and 800s had. If you have the split and the outside edge coolers it is a regular 2003. I am also thinking that the early build 2003 only came in a 151" length.

Try this one, When I bought mine I was asked whether the airbox had round holes in the back with fine mesh screen? It did, And that confirmed it was the later model to him. He said open the reeds, Gut the box or drill multiple holes in the airhorn plate. Jet it down and hang on!
