2001 M8' any good?

Title says it all. Brother-in-law is looking at a 2001 M8. Any known common trouble spots with these sleds or other reasons to avoid them?
Obviously we'll give it a good going over to look for any problems specific to this particular sled. I'm just wondering about any widespread issues.

You mean a 2001 Mountain Cat 800? The M8 didn't come out until 2007.

2001 Mountain Cat 800.

Check the following:

Chain and gears. Chains known to break. 20-43 gearing is a must and you will not break chains.

Primary clutch. Look at sheaves closely. These clutches are prone to breakage and you will see small spider-web cracks on the main clutch shaft spidering out through the sheaves. Moveable is more likely than stationary to crack.

Rear cooler hoses. Known to rub through or come loose. Take hose clamps off and get a small CV boot clamp at NAPA or SHUCKS to replace. You will need 4.

Other than that, just the normal....a arms, shock arms in rear, hi-fax, skegs, seat cover etc.

they had a recall that year on the pistons check the vin# at a dealer and see if it was done, mine blew up around 2000 miles
