The 900 motor will bolt right in, the crankcase is the same. Your crank is a little different than any of the 900 ones. Most of the electrical will work though, in fact, we've run 900's with 800 CDI boxes, and it works alright, though the 900 box is better. The stator, flywheel, and all the exhaust valve electronics will still work.

The exhaust isn't identical, but will also work. Airbox is the same, etc. Carburetor jetting will be different, of course.

I'm also going to move this to the 1M forum, as your sled has more in common with those than with the older PS models.

if you're going to spend the money time and effort into swapping motors, I would check into selling yours and picking up an 04 or newer 1M outta the swap....they are lighter plus they have the drop and rolled chaincase....just something to think about .02

Actually, your pipe frome the 800 is the best pipe to use on the 900 for elevations over 7000' You might have to re-ajust you secondary off set and you will need the clutch for the 900, your old one will not work. The old 800 had a 30mm crank and the 900 is a 33mm. You will like the extra power and torque.

They are the same stroke with just different bore.

This means that the heads, exhaust valves, exhaust, and stock jetting are all different. The CDI boxes also have a different program. Many 800 boxes can be reprogrammed.

However, the first year of the 800 (2001) had a few other differences. The PTO crank end (as previously mentioned) was only 30mm, while 2002 and later 8/900s were 33mm.

I believe that the adjustment of the exhaust valves was different on the 2001s also.

what about pipes?

Different part numbers on the pipes, but they will interchange. I'm not sure what the differences are, possibly stinger diameter. The y-pipe is different, again, not much and they will work on both motors, but they are different.
