I have been looking at mine and it looks like a 3" would just fit but have no extra room and would rub around the sprocket with 8 tooth drivers so what kind of clearance would going with 7 tooth give me,can anyone give a measurment for 7 tooth driver

You can figure out the diameter of the sprockets if you know the pitch and number of teeth:

Pitch: 3"
Teeth: 7 or 8

Circumference = Pitch * teeth
Diameter = Circumference/pi (3.14 is a good enough approx.)

Also, with the 3" pitch drivers, the pitch and pi are pretty close, so the diameter is roughly the same as the number of teeth.

3" track

There is a fella here in the Flathead Valley, Montana, his name is Robby Holman. He has a small business that deals with 3" tracks and the products needed to run them. I will search around to see if I can figure out what his web site is called. I have read other threads about this subject in the past. These guys really have it dialed in and ride 174 x 3 tracks and love them.
