Anyone have any luck with the slp single on their carb king cat? I have been fighting it for more than a year now. I just cant get it to hold the r's on long pulls. On even shorter pulls in DEEP (18-30 inches) powder.
I am running
8500-10500 feet
Gutted air box
v force reeds
66.6 gram weights
stock primary spring
Rock rollers
Cutler red white (cat green spring)
51 degree helix
I loose close to 1000 rpm on long hard pulls. It starts off at 8000 but drops to 7200 and wont climb back.
I just replaced the primary, the last one had 3 cracks in the spider.

I am very close (like tomorrow) going to go back to the stock pipe, and just ride it that way till it dies.

how old is the secondary spring? i have found every 1k throw it away no matter who makes it. this clutch it tough on this spring but you should pull a 51 all day!

My 04 KK with a CPI single would not hold rpm no matter what I did. I finally put in a 49 degree helix and it made a big difference. I tried a few other multi angles but that straight 49 worked the best for me.

I put the stock pipe back on today, going to go test that later this week. IMO the king cat motor works best with the stock pipe on it.

I have the slp single on mine. But also their porting and head mod. I have never had a problem holding R's. Setup is (6-9k) Stock Primary with 66g weights. Secondary is 55/53 with a red white (stock also). Holds 8100 all day long.

Perk, You need to weight the primary as 7700 is where you need to be at! 8100 is too high for that combo, Unless you think it runs better there?

Do you guys think these engines are making less torque at the higher RPM? I was thinking of going with the CPI, But don't want a finiky thing either. Pulls massive speed with the stock setup with a PPP can. A little loud at higher RPM's but works! 74 - 7600 all day long depending on altitude.

Had great luck with an slp single on my 04 kk but never did turn it over 7700 or under that on hard pull. Buddy had it twin that was stock and I beat him by 5 to 6 lenghts every time.

My 900 ran 70 gram weights 51 degree helix w/cutler red and white and it pulled 7900 to 8000 on my ac tach. speedwerx single with no problems. I started with a 49 degree helix and it seemed to pull the 51 just as well. When mine is running rich, it pulls down on the top end under a load. This might be something to look at.

Mike,
I think you are right. It actually runs good there, but I also think I may be leaving something on the table. I'll know this week. Lost my primary about a month ago and haven't gotten back out. I have a new one all setup and ready to go with 67's. I'll post back and let you know what I think.

Cheers!
