I just bought a 2004 king cat 900 with twin slp pipes and can. Today was the first day of riding for the sled in from what the guy told me about 2 years and it ran fine down the trail until it bogged out and died but it started right back up. i was wondering what would cause this and also what jets i should use for 5500-6500 elevation

If you go to slp's website and click on the pipes you have there is a tab that says installation if you click on that it will give you jetting, carb setup and clutching. Cant help you on the other thing, sorry.

it was probably that exhaust bog that they are famous for. Im glad i don't ride mine anymore!

Yah! that there exhaust bog gets bad riding down the trail!
Trail riding with twins is usually the end for a set of pistons. Like whats been said they are very lean mid range. Have you checked the compression? My guess is that it is low and there is some scuffing of the piston skirts.

If it bogged down and quite my guess is it seized slightly.
get rid of the pipes if you don't like tuning and replacing pistons.

as long as you don't camp out in one spot in the throttle you will be fine. don't be afraid to shove it to the bar now and then, but don't just try to hang at 5-7k.

x2 Also you might consider dropping in ZR needles to give you a little more piece of mind in the mids with the SLP twins. The number is in that pdf file you looked at while looking at SLP website for your pipes/sled. I run them in mine and egts,wash and plugs look good. While your at it may not hurt too bad to take a look at those pistons and jugs. May save you some money down the road...:beer;

thanks for the info guys i pulled the carbs out and the guy before was running 380/pto and 370/mag and slp calls for 400/pto and 410/mag does this seem right for 6000-7000ft?

I ran the 400/410's with my slp twins. That was with the stock air box with the shelf removed. Was a bit rich above 8500' but was safe. It looked really good with 390/400's. But I like it safe.

Just like others said don't stay in the mid range for a long time.

I put nearly 4000 miles on mine with the twins. never took the heads off the sled.

IMO if it was the first ride out in that amount of time did you drain the fuel in the bowls and tank. Top of with fresh fuel? If not you could have had bad fuel or water in the bowls causing problems.

But 370's 380's is a bit to lean IMO at 6000'.

We have an 05 with the decompression holes and at 1900ft it only pulled over like 138psi. My 03 900 when it was stock would pull over around 155psi but it did not have decompression holes in the cylinders.
