ISOC, the nation's premier producer and promoter of
snocross racing with Amsoil Championship Snocross, presented by Traxxas, has
decided not to proceed with its inaugural Turtle Creek Freestyle Battle portion
of the weekend's event. The racing, featuring the world's best professional
snocross racers, will proceed as scheduled at Turtle Creek Casino this Friday
and Saturday, Feb. 8-9.
In lieu of the recent tragic event at ESPN's Winter X
Games that took the life of freestyle snowmobiler Caleb Moore, ISOC has
cancelled the planned snowmobile freestyle events at Michigan's Turtle Creek
Casino (Feb. 8-9) and Wisconsin's Lake Geneva Resort (March 15-16).
And though Moore had other obligations and wasn't
scheduled to compete in ISOC's Michigan and Wisconsin freestyle events,
officials with the series felt best to cancel the first-of-its-kind program
altogether.
"We're absolutely devastated with the tragedy that
occurred at the ESPN Winter X Games this past weekend in Aspen, CO," Carl
Schubitzke, ISOC president/race director, said. "The snowmobile community
is very small, very close ... Caleb's death has affected us all in such a way
that we truly feel it's in the sport of snocross' best interest not to move
forward with the two freestyle events planned for our Traverse
City and Lake Geneva events. Our
thoughts and prayers are with the Moore
family and Caleb's industry-wide group of friends, many of whom were his fellow
competitors and regulars on the ISOC tour."
Added Rich Bailey, CEO of Grand Traverse Resort and
Casinos, "After meeting with ISOC and understanding the impact Caleb
Moore's tragic death has had on the entire snowmobile community, we are in
complete agreement with ISOC that it is best not to move forward with the
freestyle events on the Amsoil Championship Snocross tour. Our thoughts and
prayers at Turtle Creek Casino are with Caleb's family and friends."
